Christianity and hip music did align for a while. Besides Jesus Christ Superstar, there was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Godspell, Leonard Bernstein's Mass, and Genesis' Supper's Ready.

I can’t think of Cats now without Ricky Gervais’ monologue from the Golden Globes running through my mind and tasteless - but hilarious - comments on James Corden and Judi Dench.
I also think of Betty Buckley, who introduced the song on Broadway and somehow was not allowed to reprise her role as Martha Jefferson in the movie version of 1776.

That's a rather open question. I don't believe I have ever been to Allegan, and certainly not to the goat festival. At least, not that I remember.
Agreed.
I grew up liking Musicals (no I'm not gay lol) my father took me to see Camelot at age seven. Julie Andrews, Richard Burton, Robert Goulet, on Broadway. Unfortunately, I was seven. I was not experienced enough to appreciate or be impressed. He also took me to into the Philadephia Eagles locker room in 1961 in Franklin Field. Same thing, I was not in the least star-struck. They were just big sweaty guys in a locker room who just finished playing a game.
We had records. West Side Story, Finnians Rainbow, My Fair Lady, Sound of Music I listened to those albums over and over until I was about 12 and then it was Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Hendrix etc. (I am now through many changes a professional (and amateur) musician depending on the genre)
Fast forward to my experience with Cats , or I should say Gatos because it was in Madrid in Espanol. I had seen excerpts on television and had heard the songs. Nothing special. Good, but not special.
It was 2002 and I was returning to the USA with my 5 year-old daughter who I had taken to visit her grandparents who are German vacationing in Portugal. The return flight went through Madrid and there was a problem since we went to Europe using my daughter's German passport and returning to America she needed a visa. Long story short we were stuck in Madrid for at least a day or two, I booked a hotel room in a downtown area.
It was boring. What do you do with a five year-old in Madrid? Cats was playing within walking distance. Yes it was in Spanish but it's like Opera you don't have to understand all the words. In some cases it's preferable ( I can't remember if the song were sung in English or Spanish now...) anyway we went. Good performances, she enjoyed it (remembers it to this day) and we walked back to the hotel. It was now about 10:30 Pm and the streets took on a different color entirely. What had been a bustling city center by day had transformed into a seedy Times Square/SF Tenderloin district after dark.
Prostitutes, drug dealers, scam artists were everywhere, and here I was a tall 40-something with a 5 year-old blond girl that didn't look like me (her mother is blond I'm black Irish). At 10:30 at night. Very odd experience.
The two days were stuck there we travelled on the metro going to the US Embassy and such, it was extremely difficult as a man to be the guardian of my daughter (rest rooms etc) and we were so awkward there. Men don't take care of, or travel alone with little girls in Spain.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My mother loved musicals and exposed us to them. I saw a lot of the Howard Keel musicals growing up: Kiss Me, Kate; Seven Brides for Seven Brothers; and Show Boat, for instance.
