OK. Now get to work, Speaker Johnson!
Editor: Representative Mike Johnson (LA-4) has been elected the 56th Speaker of the House.
NOTE: Sailed through with ZERO votes for alternatives.

I hear that McCarthy unified the vote, when he submarined Johnson behind closed doors. That got everyone to back him.
So far, I’m liking what I’ve read about him.

Go to CTH and listen to Matt Gaetz on that subterfuge:
Remarkable Details – Matt Gaetz Gives Details of Backroom Machiavelli Tactics Triggered by Kevin McCarthy During House GOP Conference
I’ll be posting various people’s reactions. Let me begin with that of the formidable freedom fighter, Harmeet Dhillon:
Great! Finally. Hopefully there aren’t any lasting wounds. But I doubt that.
This seems like…an upgrade.
This goes to the substance of MAGA, the taxpayers’ money.
Mike Johnson, a Constitutional lawyer, is quite a contrast to Pelosi, who doesn’t know what the word means.
Wiki said he’s a far right Christian before someone cleaned up the entry. I like him more all the time.
He gave a very good speech. Seems like an affable guy. God Bless America.
Patience.

I do like me some extremists!
Like him even more!
Thank you Matt Gaetz.
Maybe this was the plan all along?
Mitt is miffed:
A man whose first elected office was Governor.
Remarkable, indeed. It is an interesting story, and something it illustrated (Gaetz didn’t point this out) was the high degree of support Johnson had from the onset. Take it with a grain of salt for the time being, but Gaetz says McCarthy worked to torpedo Scalise and Jordan.
Here’s the thing about Mike Johnson and Byron Donalds and my own rep Julia Spartz: these are people of achievement outside of politics. They gave up something to go to Washington. It is easy to feel optimistic about this.
Gaetz:
The miffing of Mitt, or perhaps we shall say Mitt’s miffedness, is its own kind of endorsement for Speaker Johnson. For whatsoever shall miff Mitt is likely to profit the nation.
Yup.
Great…As long as he didn’t pre-compromise himself with conflicting promises and side deals to get all those votes. That would be an extremely stupid way to back into a leadership position.
I will, however, assume that I have been completely duped by an elaborate charade – ala Failure Theatre – until I see a steady stream of positive results. That is now a conditioned response with these characters.
At this point, big dollops of skepticism aren’t just healthy, but outright required. The time for “Trust, but verify” is over. We’re now in the era of “Verify, we’ll see about trust.”

I’d love for all the people busy beating up on Gaetz to hear this, and tell me how wonderful McCarthy was.
I take everything negative I have said about Gaetz back. McCarthy and his supporters are the most foul examples of the political class.
Thanks.
I unfortunately was forced to go and find it.
I continue to be astounded when people, on the internet, tell someone to go look up something they just read instead of just posting the link.
I took “CTH” to mean Conservative Tree House, and the video was right there on the home page. Still is, it’s the second item down.
I had no idea what CTH stood for.
Asking for someone to, you know, actually post a link to something they want to read is not asking too much.
It is rude to not do so.
And I am astonished that people will say “Go look at this!” and not post a link.
Implying that I am somehow stupid for not knowing what a set of initials stands for is not going to change my mind on this.
I wasn’t, I’ve visited that site maybe five times, but people around here talk about it. I don’t always know the all caps abbreviations. Heck, I often don’t know them.
