I just ran across this article, and it gave me a quick education into things I never knew about the refugee camps. If you are as ignorant as I was, it will give you a quick education into a very strange world. Here is a small snippet, but as Insty says: read the whole thing.

Regarding the Palestinian Arabs, the first point to make is that many of them are not originally Palestinians at all. They are immigrants who came to the Land of Israel from all over the Arab world during the British Mandate in order to find employment in the cities and on the farms the Jews had built. These immigrants still have names like Hourani (from Houran in southern Syria), Tzurani (from Tyre in southern Lebanon), Zrakawi (from Mazraka in Jordan), Masri (the Egyptian), Hijazi (from the Hijaz province of the Arabian peninsula), Mughrabi (from the Maghreb), and many other names that point to their true geographical origins. Why, ask the other Arabs, should they get preferential treatment over those who remained in their original countries?

Starting with the end of the 1948 Israeli War of Independence, the politics in the Arab world began to center on Israel and the “Palestinian problem,” the solution to which was to be achieved by eliminating Israel. In order to succeed in that mission, the Arab “refugees” were kept in camps, with explicit instructions from the Arab League that they be kept there and not absorbed into other Arab countries.

UNRWA ensured that they were provided with food, education, and medical care without charge—that is to say, the nations of the world paid the bill, even as the Arab neighbors of these eternal “refugees” had to work to provide food, education, and medical care for their own families by the sweat of their brow. “Refugees” who were supplied with free foodstuffs, such as rice, flour, sugar, and oil, for the use of their families, would often sell some of it to their non-refugee neighbors and make a tidy profit.

Residents in the refugee camps do not pay municipal taxes. This tax exemption has led a significant number of “refugees” to rent out their homes and collect exorbitant sums in comparison with those renting apartments in nearby cities. In other words, the world subsidizes the refugees’ taxes, and the refugees line their own pockets.

    It sure seems odd that they would hate them for being the problem that they created.

    But there’s money in those “camps” and money in the hate. Do you think the NGO’s moving women and children around to get them to the US southern border (or from all over to Europe) love those they traffic and just was a good life for them? No more do the homeless and mental health and drug addiction and housing industries love their clients in the US - there’s a lot of money to be made. But they also just hate Jews.

    That's right: Those Jewish immigrants significantly boosted the prosperity in the region, which had been in serious decline ever since the Arab Muslim conquest did so much to destroy the productivity of the farms and prosperity of the cities. The Arab conquerors generally despised work and preferred to extract rents and tributes from conquered farmers and shopkeepers, and so much of the once prosperous Middle East and North Africa declined. Did you know that North Africa was once the breadbasket of the Roman Empire? Its agricultural productivity declined significantly after the conquest.

    Israel recently signed off on development of a small natural gas field off shore of Gaza…

    The Gaza Marine gas field was discovered in the late 1990s and is estimated to contain 30BCM. In accordance with international law and a series of agreements made between Israel and the Palestinians in 1999, it belongs to the Palestinian Authority (PA), but it can’t be developed without Israeli approval.

    The field was left undeveloped for over 20 years. It was too small to attract private investment in such a risky political climate. When Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, Israel didn’t want revenue from the field to fall into its hands, so it blocked further progress.

    New negotiations began over a year ago through Egypt, and a breakthrough occurred last week. [July 2023] Egypt wants to sponsor the project, and most of the gas will be sold to Egypt’s energy sector (and perhaps also exported to Europe as LNG).
