Bio

I grew up in Latin America. Was very averse to politics when I settled in the U.S. I just didn't understand any of it. Started figuring out what I believed when I began to support myself through hard work. Realized, hey, I'm a conservative, doggone it!

Anybody reading my posts out loud must read them with a vapid, airhead tone.  They sell better.

FeliciaB

I pretty much hope they are!

FeliciaB: My nephew is in the army.  He wanted to be a Ranger really, really bad.  He's very strong, very agile.  Unfortunately, he's not tall enough.  That's it.  He's made it all the way through Ranger School to be rejected simply because he's not tall enough.

I do not think the standards should be lowered.  But I do think it is rather odd that a recruit can't be allowed to pass because he's not big enough. · 5 hours ago

How tall is he?  One of my best friends is 5'3", and he's retired Ranger Instructor. · 5 hours ago

I believe he is 5'6".  He'd already done 2 tours as a medic in Iraq and wanted to be a Ranger for career advancement.  Despite the fact that the kid is a literal hard body and many times did better than his fellow competitors in the school, they wouldn't take him due to his height.  Weird.

I'm still envious you got to hang out with W in the Oval Office.  Green.  Green.  Green.

Beautiful!  And you made me cry, too.

cdor: Well first someone kept complaining that my generic guywithhat avatar was distressing, so I searched for a more pleasing look. Now you nice ladies are subtly inferring I need a new hairdresser...er... or something. I shall work on it. · 4 hours ago

I'm not complaining.  I'm simply noting how jarring it is to see such ugly (particularly in their nasty antisemitism) people while I read such beautiful sentiments.

cdor: What a beautiful post...both Ronald Reagan's letter  and your additions to it. By recognizing the wonder of this letter, you have shown, Michael Horn, to be wise beyond your age. · 2 hours ago

It's just... so hard to read this wonderful comment and then look at your avatar photo...

Lance  As a regular author of similarly intended notes to my own girls, I am constantly reminding myself to be as honest and sincere as I can be.

Just a wee bit jealous of your girls.

FeliciaB: Uhm... I'm still in this thing, but I've tweaked my tensor fascia latae.   That means, walking is not very pleasant for me right now.  Hence, the sad state of my numbers.  I'm currently lying on these little inflatable balls that, believe it or not, actually work.   · 15 hours ago

I think we have a new slogan -For the price of a tensor fascia latae you can join the Rico-challenge.

Rim shot!  :D

Yeah, but he did say, "I don't like vampires personally, I don't know any ..."

Yes, yes.  And neither have I.  However, I would like the meet the glittery kind with the crazy hair do's.

Midget Faded Rattlesnake  I think perfectionism runs in my family precisely because no one in my family naturally has patience for their own mistakes -- or anyone else's! · 14 minutes ago

Boy do I understand this!  I'm not exactly a "depressed perfectionist," but the perfectionism is definitely a problem.  However, I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps there's a genetic component.  My 6 year old in 1st grade has melt downs because he misses one (1!) word on his practice spelling test or can't quite finish all questions on a practice timed math test.  It's not like we beat him when he gets something wrong.  We barely even address it, just compliment him on getting so many correct.

I know he's getting this bizarre behavior from me because of the way I would be disappointed with myself when I didn't achieve a perfect score on an exam.  Never mind that I was pulling a solid A in a class.

Oh man.  I understand what you are going through.  I'm so sorry you're on this difficult road.  I have relatives who suffer from the disease.  In fact, my cousin wrote a book about it and his search for nutritional therapies.  This is his website:  http://www.bipolarodyssey.com/.  I can't vouch for the effectiveness my cousin is recommending since I haven't followed the research, but it's worth taking a peek at for future reference.

I agree!  I patently refuse to use the term African-American or Latino-American or [continent]-American.  The very concept of identifying people as to what kind of American they are derives from antebellum racism where you were not considered quite a full human if you had a drop of "black" blood in you.

My family is multi-racial thanks to adoption.  Whenever people ask me where my kids are from, I tell them they are Americans due to the fact that they were born on US soil.  I'm not playing that hyphen game, thankyouverymuch!
