This criticism lacks context and, frankly, evidence.

First, is this situation unusual? Did previous administrations not have this? I don't know. But seems important to know before drawing conclusions.

Second, what evidence is there of any actual harmful effect? It looks off but is there any substance?

Finally, this sounds like a conservative version of liberal complaining about Justice Thomas and his wife, who is active in conservative politics.

The White House is confused. In America, we celebrate Mother's Day.

We do not celebrate the communist inspired Women's Day.

If I'm not mistaken, JFK, LBJ, and Nixon also used the IRS to harass political opponents. Not saying it's OK, but just that it's not new.

Dave

I was thinking the same thing: leftys are too valuable elsewhere.

Dave

It's more than a nuisance. It's dangerous. As someone noted above, it is usually the speed differential that matters most.

Some roads have minimum speeds as well.

Donald Todd: How fast do I drive?  As fast as I can without getting ticketed. · 1 hour ago

Have you noticed that when there is a speed limit, everyone takes that as the rate the powers that be want us to drive on that road? Or 5 mph faster. No one drives slower, or when they do they are considered a doddery nuisance?   · 5 hours ago

Dave

Not all lights are timed? I thought they all were... How do they change? Motion sensors?

Devereaux: Foxifier has a valid point about timing of lights. They aren't timed in most locales. If you note that you go a certain speed and you always get there a certain amount of time before the light turns green, you may well have timed lights.
Dave

When stopped at a light in a line of cars, see how long it takes to get through. All that sitting at green is a waste.

Dave: Recently I've been going below the speed limit on roads with a lot of traffic and lights. I seem to hit green more often. I read about this in a book called TRAFFIC. Apparently there's some science supporting that strategy, since traffic tends to surge or run in spurts and going a little slower smooths things out to be more of a flow.

Of course this makes lots of people angry that I'm not racing to the next red light like everybody else. · 10 hours ago

I don't know, I always thought the surging and spurting worked better, since it compresses more cars into a smaller space (which always seemed to help in high-traffic areas).  · 6 hours ago

You sound like an experienced speeder...er, fast motorist!

Devereaux: Hard to give a set response.

Most of the time I run about with the traffic, but since I live outside the city, I will tend to run 40-50 on the roads about. Unfortunately, some are posted, stupidly, as 30. Except no one drives that speed.

On expressways I run 70-80 - unless I'm in a hurry. Then I will run whatever it seems I can do relatively safely. That usually means about 90-100 on the tollroad towards Milwaukee. But everyone is doing 85-90, so you really aren't going that much faster.

Rolling chicanes tend to irritate me. I will follow for a bit, to see if they are conscious, then power by, usually looking to put real distance between me and them.

Long ago I realized that cops run 85-90, looking to pick up the slow speeders. But if you run faster than that, you then need worry about the front mostly - and on-ramps and the such. A first class radar detectoou can't be overequipped. · 1 minute ago

I also learned the plus nine rule while living in NY...during a traffic class I was taking because I was caught speeding (70 in a 55).

In Florida, I have to go faster to keep up: 75 at least.

The fastest I ever went was in SC on a stretch of I-20. I was going 80 and getting smoked. I pushed it up close to 95. The road was perfectly straight and you could see for miles so little danger. But wow is that fast!

GLDIII: Hamilton or Madison? I should know I just finished Dr Arnes lecture on constitution 101. Great lectures going on to 201 · 26 minutes ago

Hamilton was dead long before 1816. Madison was president.

Percival: The most surprising person would be Andrew Jackson.  Did Ol' Hickory get the thanks of Congress and give a speech after New Orleans? · 7 minutes ago

It can't be Jackson. The words are spelled correctly too often. Jackson supposedly said he could never respect a man who only knew one way to spell a word.

Good Berean: Another thing altogether lacking is regionalism in clothing styles, food and other merchandise. When traveling trough various regions of the country I used to love to go into local grocery stores, for example, and find all sorts of different candy, soda, chips and cookies etc., not to mention regional styles of dress, music etc. What you get now is McDonalds, Burger King, Coke, Pepsi, Walmart and hip-hop. Such a loss! · 14 hours ago

Have you tried going to Spanish grocery stores? There's a chain in Florida, Sedano's, that is mostly non-threatening for non-Spanish speakers. You'll find all kinds of foods you never knew of!

Dave

Do you know about masstimes.org? It is very useful when traveling.

Fr. Robert Barron has a number of youtube commentaries on scientism and religion. An easy google away...

You know what I mean: actually from Italy. Come on!
