Great post, TP. This tick tock should be widely read.

John Yoo: Does the AG just give oral recusals when he doesn't feel like answering a question?

Best idea I've ever heard from this administration.  And I'm making it my personal policy, too.  For example, I am recusing myself from answering any more phone calls today.  And, I'm just announcing that to myself -- no need to put it in writing or anything.

Can anyone name a scandalized high official in the US that has resigned without having been hounded from office by the press or superiors?  Anyone who resigned purely for having failed in office or having brought shame in some way?  I'm having trouble thinking of anyone.

Bereket Kelile: I get the impression that Stewart is just embarrassed by these scandals. It doesn't seem to be criticism of Obama for the wrongness of the scandals so much as a frustration that the "tin-foiled" are given undeserved credibility.  · 0 minutes ago

Agree with you, Bereket.  Stewart seemed most appalled by the administration's "managerial incompetence," not by the Nixonian abuse of power and the targeting of enemies.

Looks like it's fixed...for now.

No, it's not just you, Clark.  This is really stunning. I'm wondering (a) why the Pentagon is so starved for bandwidth and (b) why they wouldn't contract with a friendlier nation if they must use non-US resources.

Brasidas

Excellent point, Troy.  We are much better served by having someone like Atkkisson remain at CBS rather than join the gang at Fox.

Broadcast News.  Albert Brooks' character is tapped to fill-in as the Saturday evening anchor for the network news.  Flop sweat, knocked over background props, panic.  Hilarious.

BrentB67: Good analysis as always.

With respect to fighter assets even if they had been closer to Benghazi and set on an alert posture to make their response timely night close air support is a very challenging proposition and in this case the operative word is close.

Urban close air support in the best conditions is an opportunity to unintentionally kill the people you are trying to save. At night it is a dice roll. Even with NVD's or LANTIRN equipped aircraft just the frag patter from a MK-82 or AGM-65 is hundreds of yards. My understanding of the endgame of the battle at Benghazi is that it was a very close engagment. · 44 minutes ago

Brent, do you think a flyover, if not close air support, would have had any effect?

Brasidas

I haven't had the type of experiences you have, Paules, but your accounts are fascinating.  However, I once had a dream that replicated something that happened the very next day.  Also, I know someone who claims to have had a vision of the death of her spouse overseas a day before it actually occurred.

For a long time, I've harbored a feeling that cheeseburgers were mocking my people.  I've never told anyone this, but now I feel I can share it with you.

Bravo, EJHill!  Just outstanding photo-shopping this week.

Very interesting analysis.  I'd been curious about what someone with knowledge of flight logistics would have to say about the ability of US forces to have reached Benghazi, but I hadn't seen any posted anywhere.

So, the aircraft/SOF in Spain, Italy and Croatia where each 4 or so hours away, but the Tripoli SOF should have been able to get there more quickly and have an impact on the battle.  The question which remains then is why they were told to stand down and who gave that order.

Nathan Harden: Bonus News: Next week is the official "Social Justice Week" at Northwestern. It promises to be one for the ages.

Social Justice Week?!  Oh man, what memories!  We wouldn't let the pledges sleep for days, made them recite the list of their class privileges, make breakfast for the students in the International House and all kinds of stuff.  Good times.

When the revolution comes -- and it will come -- you taco eaters will be made to stand in the public square and wear sandwich boards which read "My shame: I ate tacos and enjoyed them."

Brasidas

Oh, that's easy. You drop everything and watch.
