| EJHill: Calling the World Series and the 2013 Super Bowl, too? · 47 minutes ago |
Baseball is easy. It's going to be the Yankees because the last 6 times Kentucky won the NCAA basketball championship, the Yankees won the WS the same year.

| Tommy says the best part about playing is the daydreaming (and the winning too I'd guess). So what are you daydreaming about today? How you would you spend your jackpot wad? Me? I'd buy Greece. · · 4 hours ago |
You'd be massively overpaying. Much like NewsWeek, you can probably have Greece for $1 since you'd really just be buying all of their debt.
The problem with most Californians, including myself, is that we don't fully realize what a disaster of a state we live in. I'm probably only aware of at most half of the stupid rules, regulations and laws that increase costs of living and make it overly burdensome to live, raise a child, etc. It truly is astounding that anyone starts a small business here. I've seen multiple restaurants and bars that have taken well over a year to open. I've heard it can take 3 years. It seems both impossible and insane to have to plan 3 years out when going into business.
Per the Left Coast/Right Coast podcast, if they would have just called the penalty a tax or taxed everyone the penalty amount and then issued a refund to those who purchased health insurance, the whole thing would not have been an issue. In that regard, there is little fundamental difference. NOTE: to do this, Obama would have broken his 'no new taxes on < $250,000 earners' promise, but I'm not sure why he cared if this was truly that monumental.
I'm not sure if the mandate will hold up, but if it doesn't, the Dems have only themselves to blame since a mechanism was available to do the exact same thing in a slightly different way.
Twitter is just a vehicle for the lower brain functions to come out before the rational higher brain functions kick in. The same goes for the blogosphere. The trouble is that many people seem to be mistaking this for acceptable behavior. Impulse control is one of the most important components of becoming a mature adult.
As for it being more a tool of the Left, that just makes sense since younger people are more apt to use it and they are predominantly liberal. Grown-ups with jobs and families don't have as much time for such things.
So, if it's struck down, Americans are going to vote for Democrats so they can pass another version of this disaster? I don't see that happening to a significant degree. It will certainly energize the Democratic base, but it opens the door for a conservative plan to be tried, and people may be more willing to listen to a free market solution since ObamaCare has failed to deliver on many of it's key selling points.
How about allowing people to buy insurance across state lines and decoupling insurance from employers? Those two steps alone would seem to solve most problems. People could get insurance for cheap when they are young and carry it with them so that there would be few cases of pre-existing conditions along with more choices. Amongst those choices could be simple catastrophic insurance which covers the cases that the Left freaks out the most against (i.e. getting cancer in your 20's).
Alas, it's my guess that the fear-mongering of the Left has people convinced none of these solutions would work, even though this is how most industries operate on the whole.
| Nathaniel Wright: Ah yes...the eternal Adorno inspired "respect for authority" factor. One can be plenty conservative and have very little respect for authority -- let alone have an Authoritarian Mind -- after all what is the intent of limited government other than a desire to limit authority? The findings on who understands who is interesting, the moral construct less so. · 1 hour ago |
I take "respect for authority" to mean respect of the rules that exist. Liberals tend to think the current set of rules to be wrong/unfair/unjust/etc and are constantly trying to change them to disproportionately help the 'oppressed'. Conservatives tend to believe that the existing laws tend to be adequate if they are enforced correctly - think illegal immigration or the financial crisis; where lack of enforcement tends to be at the heart of the problem.
People who complain about the clearly posted rules after the game has started tend to fall on the liberal side. They just don't like the concept of losing. Everyone is entitled to a participation trophy, etc, etc,.
Well, it's no Pelosi GTxi SS/RT, that's for sure.

Well, then, Hugh Hewitt don't know golf. If Rick's "six down with five to play," the match is both de jure and de facto over, and the boys leave the course. Mitt's won. Since Rick still canwin, he's more like "five down with six to play," to use Hugh's metaphor. And if that's not inevitable enough, then he's "eight down with nine to play." That's as close to inevitable a match play match can be (without being dormie). · 36 minutes ago |
More like 9 down with 9 to play. Santorum needs to win out and take the match to extra holes (a.k.a. brokered convention).
The over the top "War on Women" meme is patently absurd and I think the public is sending a message on that. Gas prices are definitely dragging on the president as well since he seems hell bent on doing absolutely nothing since he has no control over gas prices. He has control over every other aspect of life though, so don't smite him.
Given all the pre-release bashing, my expectations were low, but I actually enjoyed the movie. Some parts are over-exaggerated, but that's just the way movies are made. I agree that they portrayed faith as some sort of voodoo worship, but beyond that, I didn't have much problem with it.

Re: November Predictions: Dems Up in House; Reps Up in Senate
I saw Dick Morris predicting +8 in the Senate. He has a pretty good track record.
