I thought it was a weapon that killed a bunch of people at once.Â
Like a chemical weapon or a nuclear bomb .
If Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of chemical weapons, how does  everybody justify the “they lied about WMD” trope ?
What exactly are the jihadi ISIS people capturing then ? Look at this story.Â
And didn’t Saddam have a big nuclear program that he packed up and shipped to Gaddafi lock ,stock , and barrel ? Then Gaddafi got scared and gave it up to us ? Wouldn’t that have qualified as a WMD as well ?Â
Goebbels was right, but listening to people on the right wing, from Colin Powell to Megyn Kelly continually bleat on about the WMDs that weren’t there, when someone found a bunch yesterday just confounds me to no end.

Dude, that was, like, 10 years ago!
Wasn’t Hussein producing biological weapons too, such as anthrax?
You’re right that the term “WMD” was applied to chemical and biological weapons back when Bush was in office, and anti-war protesters made it all about nukes. It became so common that even the war’s defenders picked up the habit.
They were found in several cases before yesterday, and yes, Qaddaffy did give up a program that had been sent for safekeeping from Iraq. (Was it nukes or chem or bio?) There were also a thousand other reasons that justified our going in. It was still the same war that started in Bush 41 and was a hot war during Clinton, plus Saddam was explicitly paying for terrorist acts in Israel. In the lead up to the ramp up of the war, he even upped his bonuses from $10,000 to $25,000 to the families of terrorist sacrifices. I could go on for weeks. I could even dig out the old stories from the New York Times that reported on the facts. But what’s the point?
The point is that we few must keep the truth alive. Â
Thank you! At last, I read someone else who acknowledges that the enormous pile of chemical weapons found in Iraq constitutes WMD.  Relying only on public source information, you can easily find numerous stories of not only chemical weapons found, but hastily abandoned biological weapons facilities. Every definition of “WMD” includes chemical and biological weapons, as well as nuclear weapons.
The nuclear weapons program does indeed appear to have been disinformation – there was no real sustained effort in Iraq to acquire a nuclear weapon, at least not after Osirak was paid a surprise visit by the Israelis. The only remaining mystery is whether Saddam’s own people were lying to him about continuing to work on acquiring nukes.Â
There is still room for healthy disagreement about whether invading Iraq was wise/warranted, about how Donald Rumsfeld chose to execute the operation, about the insane decision to fire Iraqi military and police forces without disarming them, etc., etc.
