Even if one agrees that the police went over the line in this case, or that the police goes over the line as a matter of policy when enforcing drug laws, it does not necessarily follow that the drug laws themselves are illegitimate.

There are plenty of acts which reasonable people agree should be against the law, yet we still want the police to exhibit restraint and respect for the Constitution went enforcing these laws.

Just because I don't think police should be allowed to fire machine guns into a rioting mob, it doesn't mean I think rioting should be legal.

Police and government are increasingly using these sorts of extreme, violent, and brutal enforcement tactics to enforce all sorts of laws, not just drug laws. The problem is often not with the particular law itself, but the methods used to enforce that law.

After this example of independent-mindedness, is it fair for the centre-right media to keep referring to Booker as an "Obama Surrogate"?

Isn't that kind of labelling the same kind of Alinskyite tactic that we usually abhor?
