Bio

Although certainly a curmudgeon, I've come to Ricochet for a more civil dialogue.

I was an early adopter at Hot Air and still enjoy it there. However, as the site grew, as with many others, it is difficult to make it through some threads without thinking you're watching an episode of Jerry Springer.

This has led me to create Eeyore's Postulate (possibly related to Godwin's Law)

“Every comment in a thread increases by 1% the probability that the thread will contain a flame war.”

Thus:

25 comments – a 25% chance of a flame war

50 comments – a 50% chance of a flame war

200 comments – If you can't do the f******* math on that, crawl back down into your Mommy's basement and take all the rest of the a$$hat comments you've made on this thread, and die like all the rest of you Rethuglicans should have long ago!!!!11!11!!

(well, that's a slight exaggeration for Hot Air – that would have brought out the banhammer)

See...it just happens.

So, thanks, Peter and Rob, for the Ricochet C of C.

It seems Hamill may need a little...coaching to pull off Noto's look.

Devereaux

 - and now you can make all you want without them being the wiser

I wouldn't be surprised if the Digital Rights Management on the software could be so sophisticated that, if you try to make a controlled item without the proper clearances, a drone might toss a Hellfire on your coordinates. But Eric Holder says he probably wouldn't do it.

So that trailer is for a Tony Robbins workshop?

DocJay:  Not one more ounce of power to these crooked evil minions of hell masquerading as servants of the people.

Tell ya the truth, HockeyDoc, many seem to have dropped the whole pretense of this "servant" thing. It's not unusual to hear nothing of "my constituents are demanding..." and a whole lot of "we must act because people are just not doing what we know they have to do..."

R.J. Moeller

...we will be definitely releasing the audio from it. Possibly video as well.

Thanks, R.J. Will be on the lookout.

[Fred Cole blows smoke, possibly realizing that a few years down the road, discussion of the authority structure in his relationship will consist primarily of the incantation "Yes, dear...Yes, dear...Yes, dear..."]

Someone I knew years ago was pulled over driving stoned.

The officer said: "Do you know how fast you were going?"

50?  No...     60??   No...      70?!?   No...

Franco:  For me, seeing someone cry in public or on camera looks like manipulation.

You mean like Slick Willy?

Question for The Logo:  Do you know it they will webcast or record this for viewing somewhere on the Intertubes?

Has Hollywood hit rock bottom in tackiness?

"Rock bottom" suggests there are greater depths to which the subject would be unable to plumb.

Such is not the case - wait five minutes.

Book signing? Heck, Dave, there are a bunch of folks all around planning a whole book tour.

Peacebuilding as replacements for military deterrence, as if their right thinking and ample resources can persuade bad actors to be good.

A number of times I have had the misfortune to have been involved with groups operating by consensus. This led me to formulate a number of Myths of Consensus. One is: There  are no bad actors - only bad process. No situation is so problematic that it cannot be solved be just the right workshop or just the right professional facilitator.

Unfortunately, the sorts of people who live this way are so committed to their mythology that no matter how many bad actors commit how many misdeeds, the solution to any problem would have been just one more workshop on [X] or a professional facilitator, and things would certainly have worked out for the best.

DocJay:  Eeyore, that looks like a Rorshack drawing.

Looks like?! When you know why it's there, there is really no better actual description of the national political psyche.

You mean Mel Watts's proprietary NC 12th CD might change shape?

I think Obama's re-election was partly due to this being an American Idol Presidency - all about cool and image. This helps to reinforce the idea: dominate the popular culture. Have a real White House Press Conference? Nah, go on the View or talk to fawning small-market radio hosts. After all, the most important cultural event one can imagine for this country is Beyoncé at the White House.

Rush calls these folks low-information voters. Who needs information when you can choose your leaders on the basis of celebrity.

Thanks for the link, skip. That must have been posted, drifted down and off the page that day when I left Ricochet to get a cup of coffee.
