Indiana Makes 24

Indiana’s governor signed a law making his state the 24th state to permit concealed carry of firearms without a permit. Law enforcement (meaning mostly police union bosses and police chiefs appointed by liberal Democrat mayors) objected to the legislation on the basis that they really liked being able to arrest people for having guns in their cars.

Ruszkowski used a recent example of a traffic stop in which an individual was found to have a gun without a license. He said the person was arrested and charged with carrying a gun without a permit, and the prosecutor’s office later found the person was on parole for attempted murder.

Dog Bites Man – Fraudi: Parties for me but not for thee

Once again, “Doctor” Fraudci spouted leftist partisan nonsense, in the false name of public health. He peddled his propaganda on the Poppycock Network, appearing on Meet the Press to condemn those bitter clinging deplorable extremist hobbits gathering in Sturges, South Dakota, while having nary a care for the equivalent “superspreader” events this past week on Martha’s Vineyard and in Chicago.

Lollapalooza is a long-running music festival, held in Chicago, Berlin,  São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Stockholm, and Paris. Chicago hosted Lollapalooza, July 29 – August 1, 2021, in Grant Park. It was a perfectly normal huge weekend party, with mostly younger people packed in shoulder-to-shoulder. There were 8 stages and over 170 bands.

Black Hills Matter: The Ricochet Meetup Report

The whole gang at Murphy’s Pub & Grill

Seventeen of us (mostly Ricochet members, but also some spouses and other guests) met up for a four-day meetup in South Dakota’s Black Hills the weekend before Labor Day. We didn’t all do everything, but among the activities and places we went were Mammoth Site, Mount Rushmore, Sturgis Mustang Rally, the 1880 Steam Train Ride, Bear Country USA, and Reptile Gardens. We had talked about doing a cave tour, but most of the cave tours were shut down due to Covid-19. Most of us also went on a scenic drive through Custer State Park and Spearfish Canyon.  Although we set out at more or less the same time, we did not drive in a caravan.  And I don’t think any of us stayed exactly on the pre-planned route.

Nothing but crazy martinis today! First, Jim and Greg react to news that former Republican, Democrat, and independent Lincoln Chafee is now a Libertarian and thinking about running for president with his new party in 2020. They also slam the Democratic National Committee for recoiling at the idea of Politico’s Tim Alberta asking questions at the December presidential debate because he spent a year writing for National Review. And they examine South Dakota’s attention-grabbing drug prevention campaign entitled, “Meth. I’m On It.”

Some of you are aware of the big Ricochet Meetup we held in 2017 in Bigfork, Montana. You can read @rushbabe49‘s reports here, here, and here.  At the time, a few of us were thinking that we ought to do a similar meetup one day in the Black Hills. There are a lot of tourist […]

It was our 7th day out as dawn broke on the westernmost camp we would make on this trip.  Rapid City may be South Dakota’s 2nd largest city, but with under 80,000 people it seems hardly to qualify as a city by the standards of anything east of the Mississippi.  Yet it showed something I […]

The thunderstorm came on slowly from the north.  We watched the clouds flash and pulse and felt the distant rumbles of the storm.  As it neared the wind picked up, first to a warm breeze, then to a cooler insistent push.  It was time to go in.  We kept the windows open for the time, […]
