Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Flight 94: The Presidential Race Film Franchise

Michael Anton’s essay, wherein he claimed the 2016 election was the Flight 93 scenario has slipped into the general consciousness as being either a prophetic doomsday scenario of Hillary’s potential presidency and a last chance to save the nation from disaster, or a now-risible bit of demagoguery aimed to scare voters into voting against their interests, depending on one’s point of view and political leanings. What is undeniable, of course, is that the phrase has stuck and become something of a metaphor or touchstone for how one views the Trump years.

What is also undeniable is that as successful as the phrase has become, it has real franchise potential too. I will go so far as to say that the 2020 election is shaping up to be the Flight 94 election, and like all too many Hollywood superhero/disaster/car-racing underworld second films, it looks to be far worse than the origin story of the first movie.

Inspired by Richard Easton’s brilliant AOC song parody (http://ricochet.com/595256/one-side-now-the-green-raw-deal/), I figured I should try one. Sung to the tune of “I’m Coming Out”, with apologies to Diana Ross: [Extremely long musical intro] Preview Open

Not many people know this, but I have been quietly contemplating a run for a seat in the United States Senate. Recent events have convinced me that the time for contemplation is over. I have made my decision, and the time has come to announce it.

After a great deal of discussion with my wife and children, after many hours of deep thought, meditation, and prayer to several deities from a list I found on the internet (to cover all the bases), I have decided, at last, not to seek office at this time.

Hello, everyone. I’ll forgo the usual formalities and get right down to the point. The American people have once again gone to the polls and made their wishes known. I’d like to thank all those citizens who contributed to my forty-five state landslide. And for those of you who didn’t vote for me? Sppppuuuu! Now, […]

Each day, I begin my morning by silencing my phone’s alarm and scrolling through BBC headlines — arguably an act of supreme masochism. Each day, then, I’m treated to a panoramic view of mankind’s ever-shrinking intuition. Each day, I witness yet more proof of the slow death of common sense. Such articles often remind me […]

To the tune of The Ballad of Jed Clampett (the theme song and closing verse from “The Beverly Hillbillies”):

Come and listen to a story ’bout a gal named Liz,
Poor lady lawyer was nothing like a whiz.
She knew that Harvard was the place she ought to be,
So she came up with the lie that she was part Cherokee!

Kim Yo-jong, Rocketman’s stunningly stone-faced beautiful sister, has handed the United States a propaganda coup of its own. The now-former North Korean Director of Propaganda and Agitation Minister of Peace and Harmony smuggled herself into the US in one of Ivanka Trump’s four steamer trunks. After being discovered by the Secret Service, the agents whisked […]

In a stunning announcement this morning, NASA officials confirmed that Elon Musk’s Mars-bound Tesla was abducted by aliens. At first the aliens were puzzled, as the car presented no tailpipe for probe insertion. Later, they decided the car was in fact a god, as it could move under its own power. Although it has not been […]

Buenos Aires (AP)— Government authorities in Argentina have uncovered shocking evidence that Hillary Rodham Clinton may in fact be the daughter of Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun. Documents recently discovered in a locked filing cabinet, located in the basement of a government records building contain a birth certificate. After translation from the original Spanish, the […]

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America cheer Interior Sec. Ryan Zinke for taking steps towards allowing energy exploration and development on more than 90 percent of the Outer Continental Shelf. They also fume at President Trump for taking a week when he could be highlighting his support of Iranian protesters, the Dow crossing 25,000 and expanding American energy production and instead ranting about nuclear button sizes and trying to order a book publisher not to release a book critical of his presidency. And they laugh at the liberals in the media and beyond who believed an online parody – about Trump being obsessed with the “Gorilla Channel” up to 17 hours at a time – was actually in that new book.

It looks as if the #metoo movement has claimed another victim. Yesterday, noted TV personality Barney the Dinosaur was accused of improperly touching Baby Bop several times during the filming of Barney and Friends. Baby Bop released this statement: “It pains me to join in the chorus of women who have come forward to accuse […]
