Dear Fox News, My Photoshop Was Not Sexist

HarfJames Rosen, Fox News’ chief Washington correspondent, said that some of the criticism of Marie Harf and Jen Psaki was rooted in sexism.

On the Howard Kurtz program Mediabuzz this weekend, Rosen was asked about the State Department spokesduo, which has been pilloried by the international press and center-right commentariat for multiple high-profile gaffes. Following a Harf statement last week that “we cannot kill our way out of this war” with ISIS, even MSNBC’s Chris Matthews complained about the administration’s feckless response to the Islamist threat.

While Rosen thought some criticism was justified, he worried that much of the social media blowback was offensive. The only specific example he pointed to was a Photoshop I made last year. You can watch Rosen’s remarks in the video below (skip to the two-minute mark) or read the transcript below.

While I was uploading some large files, I decided to try my hand at video editing by taking three clips of everyone’s favorite State Department spokesperson, Marie Harf, saying that, “we can’t kill our way out of this war,” with Islamic State. She also implies that jobs is the answer to radical Islamic barbarism, that they need a different path in life. She delivers basically the same propaganda (shades of Susan Rice) to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and MSNBC Joe Scarborough (who wanted to give her a mulligan on her previous comments but she declined).

I’ve included a bonus clip of Col. Ralph Peters, appearing on Fox News, who said that, “Marie Harf is Exhibit A for the comprehensive failure of the US educational system,” which is absolutely priceless taken in the context of her remarks over the last two days.

In a short span of a holiday weekend, the world watched an ISIS-inspired gunman shoot up a cafe and synagogue. ISIS members also beheaded 21 Coptic Christians in Libya and burned 45 people to death in Iraq. This came on the heels of ISIS burning a Jordanian pilot to death in a cage and emailing American hostage Kayla Mueller’s family pictures of her dead body. Jordan responded with massive air strikes, as did Egypt.

Barack Obama responded with a selfie stick and golf.

MarieHarfI turned on the TV last night just in time to catch Megyn Kelly’s calm evisceration of State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf. You’ve seen Harf: The young blonde with big glasses who clumsily lies about Obama’s foreign policy with all the gravitas of a cashier at The Gap.

Harf usually appears when State’s usual spokesperson is indisposed. Jen Psaki also has a CV filled with cringeworthy gaffes, most famously the hashtag diplomacy photos that forced Putin to return Crimea to Ukraine.
