My “Early Election Returns” Scorecard, Part II

This is Part 2 of the series of my election-night scorecard of races to watch to see how big the tide will be that may sweep Republicans into control of the US House, Senate, and state and local offices. You can find Part 1 here. If you missed it, it sets the stage. Let’s continue where we left off.

New Jersey’s 7th District, Tom Kean Jr. versus incumbent Tom Malinowski

Jim & Greg cheer on the Supreme Court decision that voucher programs must include religious schools if they include private schools. They also slam President Biden over his suggestion that high energy prices are getting us closer to his green energy agenda goals. And they condemn Missouri GOP Senate candidate and former governor Eric Greitens crazy RINO hunting ad.

From the annual memorial run honoring the 15 wardens who’ve died in the line of duty in the agency’s history. It is the highest LOD count of any agency in the state. The runners do one mile per fallen warden, so it’s a half marathon…and may it remain so.  Preview Open

A Constitutional Right to … Food?

One of the more interesting ballot questions last Tuesday was Question 3 in Maine. The 43-word constitutional amendment, overwhelmingly approved by voters, reads as follows:

“All individuals have a natural, inherent and unalienable right to food, including the right to save and exchange seeds and the right to grow, raise, harvest, produce and consume food of their own choosing for their own nourishment, sustenance, bodily health and well-being, as long as an individual does not commit trespassing, theft, poaching or other abuses of private property rights, public lants, or natural resources in the harvesting, production or acquisition of food.”

It’s Not Just the Democrats’ HR 1 or HR 4, the So-Called “Corrupt Politicians Act.” Other “Reforms” are Afoot. Canada’s federal election on Monday featured what they call a “first past the post” election – whoever gets the most votes in a “riding” (what they call parliamentary districts) wins the election, even if no one […]

It’s OK for party primaries. General elections? Not so much. Having just returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia, I was surprised to find out that the candidates facing off in our May 8th Republican “Drive-By” Convention (Virginia and New Jersey have odd-year state elections) for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general will be chosen via […]

Faced with the need to Do Something! about rising COVID cases, Maine governor Janet Mills has indeed done something: On Thursday, Gov. Janet Mills issued a new executive order requiring people to wear face coverings in public regardless of the ability to maintain physical distancing. . . . The order requires people to wear a […]

It’s all good martinis today! Join Jim and Greg as they stunningly applaud former President Obama for telling liberals that just blasting people for not being sufficiently woke actually accomplishes nothing. They’re also glad to see the House of Representatives vote overwhelmingly to blame Turkey for the Armenian genocide committed over a century ago and discuss why that matters now. And they discuss the financial and ethical headaches facing the likely Democratic challenger to Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins.

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America break down the news of Maine and Nevada refusing to join the popular vote pact to change presidential elections. Michael Avenatti is on his way to losing his license to practice law. And Baltimore’s Mayor wants criminals to swap bullets for boxing gloves.

The Daily Signal (a Heritage Foundation site) released a video detailing Maines significant reductions in able-bodied welfare rolls. While Governor Paul LaPage received massive outcry from advocates of the poor, the results show an 80% drop in welfare (‘able bodied’, ‘single’) while there was a 114% increase in employment. Families with children were not included in […]

Maine Governor Paul LePage (R) has a razor-thin lead in a three way race, receiving 41% in a Rasmussen Reports Poll out today. Democrat US Representative Michael Michaud receives 40%, while so-called independent (read: liberal) Elliot Cutler places a distant third at 16%. In 2010, LePage won the Blaine House with 37.6% of the vote to Cutler’s […]

On the Feeling of Belonging

It’s question often asked and answered, if you live in New York City: “Where are you from?” It’s an easy conversation starter, and since countless residents of the Big Apple are born elsewhere, the answer is often interesting. People flock to the city not just from around the country but also from around the world.

Though I have lived in this place for nine years, I am not a New Yorker.

With still another week remaining of vacation we received the news that ended the trip. Very early in the morning my wife’s phone rang. Over a very bad connection we heard: her uncle died the night before in a plane wreck in Florida. We took that day anyway to see Boston, but we drove all […]
