Contributor Post Created with Sketch. US & Guatemala Sign “Safe Third Country” Agreement to Curb False Claims of Asylum

President Trump oversaw a signing ceremony Friday in the Oval Office between Guatemala and the United States for a “safe third country” agreement on asylum seekers. The New York Post reports:

The “safe third country” agreement would require migrants, including Salvadorans and Hondurans, who cross into Guatemala on their way to the US to apply for protections in that country instead of at the southern border [of the United States]. … The two countries had been negotiating an agreement for months, and Trump threatened Wednesday to place tariffs on Guatemala if it didn’t cut a deal.

David French of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America celebrate stronger than expected economic growth of 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2019. They also pour cold water on the absurd notions that Anita Hill was treated unfairly by the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1991 and that Clarence Thomas is somehow assumed […]

You are washed up President Trump – pack your bags – no re-election for you! You’re finished! These were the headlines after President Trump ended the government shut-down….on a “partial basis”. It’s January in Florida and after a blustery French-styled mistral blew through Saturday night, along with a tropical monsoon, the temperatures quickly tanked Sunday. Yes, we have it all here. This morning my husband had to scrape a light frost off the truck windshield before heading to work. He used a numbered plastic card that […]

With the current frenzy and media buzz surrounding the Central American caravan, which is tirelessly marching north to the US-Mexico Border, political pundits from both sides of the aisle are weighing in with a bevy of talking points. In addition, conspiracy theories are being bounced around with reckless abandon as to who is funding the march: is […]

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America are amazed that more than 90 percent of House Democrats either opposed a resolution supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement or refused to vote on it at all. Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America commend House Republicans for planning a vote on “Abolish ICE” legislation that Democrats have already begun to step away from. They also criticize tactics of some House Republicans during the Peter Strzok testimony, in which members seemed more interested in scoring a dazzling soundbite […]

“An intellectual,” observed Camus, “is someone whose mind watches itself.” True enough, I suppose, though it’s a pity that many who fashion themselves as intelligent apparently don’t take the time to actually listen to themselves.

This showed up on my Facebook newsfeed this afternoon. I have probably lost a friend over my reply:

Stunning perhaps, but not accurate. In 1937, the German Jews who were detained were sent to work camps and death camps. That is the first difference. Neither of those happen to those detained by ICE. The German government turned on its own citizens. Their German citizenship counted for nothing. Every single country in the world has citizenship requirements, including Canada and Mexico—the two countries that border us.

California, which many other states often follow as an example, just protected it’s illegal immigrant criminals while putting up another roadblock in allowing law enforcement to keep its people safe. While not surprising, it’s still a major disappointment for the law-abiding citizens. This Sanctuary State legislation signed by Jerry Brown passed with zero support from […]
