Joe Selvaggi hosts a conversation with constitutional legal expert Clark Neily, who delves into the facts and legal complexities surrounding USA v. Rahimi, currently before the Supreme Court. This case questions the forfeiture of Second Amendment rights for individuals accused of domestic abuse.

Plenty of substantive objections to Gavin Newsom’s proposal for a 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution have been raised. No one with any sense thinks the proposal has any chance of passing. Nonetheless, I have a Constitutional structural question about the proposal that I have not seen among the objections. Maybe I am nuts […]

American History Meets an Agenda: Ban Re-enactments

Isn’t it frustrating that some progressives insist on denigrating white Americans with the dark history of slavery (systemic racism), but refuse to acknowledge how far we’ve come in overcoming the past? That attitude—that there is only one acceptable way to illustrate American history—has become part of progressive propaganda, and in particular, according to black progressives. They want to teach their incomplete version of black history, including their own depictions of the Civil War and other controversial conflicts.

In recent years, the Left is working to ban re-enactments in particular, with excuses that simply aren’t credible or honest. Slowly but surely, more excuses are used ranging from the rejection of violence, firing weapons, felonious use of weapons, the importance of gun control, the evils of the Confederacy, white supremacy, the use of Confederate symbols, and rejection of Civil War monuments. That these events and symbols depict our history is meaningless to the Left.

Here is a brief list of some of the re-enactments that have been affected:

President Biden Continues to Demonstrate Ignorance and a Failure to Think

On Thanksgiving Day, President Biden again pushed his demand that citizens be deprived of the ability to purchase any semiautomatic firearm. But he went further than he had before by declaring that semiautomatic firearms have “no social redeeming value.”

“The idea — the idea we still allow semiautomatic weapons to be purchased is sick,” Biden continued. “It’s just sick. It has no, no social redeeming value. Zero. None. Not a single, solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers.”

A Tale of Two Shootings

As Americans always do, scores of celebratory parades, concerts, and fireworks demonstrations occurred on Independence Day. Sadly, at least one of them ended tragically, with a 21-year-old shooter killing eight people in the pleasant and peaceful north Chicago suburb of Highland Park. Two Philadelphia police officers were also injured by gunshots at a July 4th celebration, but there are lots we don’t know about that incident, other than the mayor wants to quit his job he “can enjoy some stuff.”

You know about the first one, and probably the back story that has emerged. A disturbed and troubled young man caught up in gangsta rap culture who once threatened not only to kill himself but others. An apparently delinquent father who enabled his son’s fantasy’s for guns, while a “red flag” law in one of America’s strictest gun control states was ignored. At least seven people are now dead, and others were injured.

This week on Hubwonk, host Joe Selvaggi talks with CATO Institute research fellow Trevor Burrus about the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision New York State Rifle and Pistol Associate v. Bruen and its implications for an individual’s right to carry a fire arm in states such as Massachusetts.

Washington’s “close-in” suburbs in Northern Virginia are deep-blue territory, politically speaking. It is very wealthy, highly educated, and predominantly white and liberal. I happen to live in Arlington, Virginia, particularly the Commonwealth’s Eighth Congressional District. It’s a beautiful district, home to Arlington Cemetary, The Pentagon, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and other historic venues. Bordering the […]

Charles C.W. Cooke is a prolific writer on the subject of guns and the 2nd Amendment. On June 2, 2022,  with the several mass shootings happening is a span of a few weeks, Cooke sat down with Ricochet’s Scott Immergut to review the history and breadth of gun rights in America. Recorded June 2, 2022 […]

A Sad Story of Sensible Gun Legislation

It’s official: House Democrats, acting on a purely partisan basis, are trotting up their poll-tested “best of” legislation to restrict gun ownership. The House Judiciary Committee is holding an “emergency hearing” on Thursday to “mark up” the bills. Any GOP efforts to modify the bills in any way will be rejected. Oldies but goodies, politically speaking.

Are you one of the thousands of teenagers in Pennsylvania who enjoy the opening of hunting season – a school holiday in many parts of the Commonwealth? If you are 19 years old and looking to buy a new .30-06 caliber rifle for that hunting trip – more powerful than the scary-looking AR-15 that is generally unsuitable for large game hunting – the Democrats say no. Even if you pass your background check and just completed basic training for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Where you were trained to handle really scary-looking guns. Even grenades.

Former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy is in for Jim agai today. Andy and Greg break down the four-part Washington Examiner investigation into the Hunter Biden laptop and everything that’s been uncovered thus far. They also discuss the push for red flag laws and the tension between trying to keep truly unstable people away from weapons that they might use to kill others and the desire to protect second amendment rights. And they fume over how Democrats make a lot of noise about the need to address various problems but won’t allow any ideas to be considered outside of their absolutist left-wing agenda.

This is your reminder that May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. We do not need or want more reminders.  The latest reminder is another horrific and senseless snuffing out of young and innocent lives by a deranged person, this time at an elementary school in deep southwest Texas. It was followed by the predictable […]

Indiana Makes 24

Indiana’s governor signed a law making his state the 24th state to permit concealed carry of firearms without a permit. Law enforcement (meaning mostly police union bosses and police chiefs appointed by liberal Democrat mayors) objected to the legislation on the basis that they really liked being able to arrest people for having guns in their cars.

Ruszkowski used a recent example of a traffic stop in which an individual was found to have a gun without a license. He said the person was arrested and charged with carrying a gun without a permit, and the prosecutor’s office later found the person was on parole for attempted murder.

It was very smart of gun-rights Republicans to pass a bill permitting concealed carry without a permit while moderate Republican governor Mike DeWine was facing a primary challenge. I strongly doubt he would have signed it otherwise.  Ohio is now the 23rd state to formalize the Constitutional right to carry a firearm for personal defense. […]

Alexandra Desanctis Marr is in for Jim today.  Alexandra and Greg cheer Senate Republicans for blocking the Democrats’ very expensive “infrastructure” bill, which doesn’t even exist yet. They also slam House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for further politicizing the committee tasked with investigating the Capitol Hill riot by rejecting two GOP members. And they scratch their heads after President Biden’s latest town hall is filled with false statements and incoherent moments.

Jim & Greg are glad to see VP Kamala Harris finally deciding to visit the border amid mounting pressure from Donald Trump, conservatives, and some in the media. They also cringe at President Biden’s dishonest attempts to justify gun control and saying that anyone wanting to resist the government would need F-15s and nukes. Finally, they discuss China covering up their climate abuses by paying off American media outlets and nonprofits.

Much is being made of President Joe Biden’s rather odd news conference yesterday going after guns and gun dealers to curb the epidemic of urban violence. I’m not getting into the “substance” of his remarks, but instead note the President channeling his inner Eric Swalwell (US Rep., D-CA, failed presidential candidate. And much more). Stick with me; a […]

The President’s recent statement that “No amendment is absolute,” referring to the need for the Lefties to pull each and every gun out of the realm of public ownership, is troubling. I would say it is impeachment material. But apparently he did not go far enough to satisfy Joy Behar. Preview Open
