Haven’t these people heard of closed captioning?  It’s all the rage these days.  This image is from one of my governor’s (Gretchen Whitmer) infamous recent executive order broadcasts.  Normally, her striking red lipstick would capture my complete attention and I’d be riveted to her compelling words.  But, lately, every time she speaks, there is this […]

I’ve just been listening to GLoP podcast, where the topic of the 1980’s cartoon heroine She-Ra comes up for a brief discussion, with John Podhoretz mentioning he read on Vox (I think that’s what he said) that the newly released She-Ra cartoon on Netflix (produced by Dreamworks) has now re-imagined all the characters as gay. […]

I laughed when the GLoP boys talked about how innocuous the Merv Griffin show was. The guys are not wrong, but I recently watched some early black and white episodes on Amazon Prime and they are unintentionally funny.  Check out this clip to see what I mean — painfully hilarious! Andy Warhol got his first 15 minutes […]

We are exactly one month out from the 2016 Presidential Elections. You’d think everything the Right has — and especially the Ricochet podcasts — would be aimed at beating Hillary Clinton — the most corrupt, most dishonest, most dangerous, most foreign-entangled candidate since Obama. But you’d be wrong. In the flagship Ricochet Podcast, Rob Long […]

Tessellations

“Tessellations,” MC Escher

I had the true pleasure of meeting a provocative and charming cadre of the Ricochetti in Manchester, New Hampshire recently at the Ricochet/National Review get together. Greetings to all my new friends! It was deeply satisfying to be with such sparkling, philosophically compatible company.

I was watching the Plinkett reviews of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace again (haven’t seen the new one yet, so no spoilers please) and an interesting thing stuck out in light of recent events. Starting at the six minute point of part 5, which is where the link should take you, Mr. Plinkett starts discussing […]

For those of you writing impassioned arguments supporting the “White Pride” billboard…you really need to stop. There is no justification for it, no matter how much pretzel twisting mental gymnastics you need to do to get yourself there. “White Pride” is a phrase associated with the most vile, repugnant segments of our society, game over. […]

Desert Island Movies

shutterstock_134373668On the most recent GLoP podcast, the crew discussed “desert island” movies. That is, the five movies you would want with you on a desert island to watch for the rest of your life.

Now the guys named some incredible movies — among them, The Godfather, Singin’ in the RainThe Best Years of Our Lives, A Face in the Crowd, Groundhog Day, and Casablanca — but I don’t think you would pick those movies to watch over and over and over again. I think they would get old. Here are mine in no particular order:

  1. Zombieland (funny and highly re-watchable)
  2. Scott Pilgrim vs the World (see above)
  3. The Godfather Part 2 – An amazing and highly re-watchable movie
  4. The Incredibles – Best Pixar movie
  5. The Ten Commandments – How can you not?

What is on your list?

Being Right Is Never Enough: Open Carry Advocacy Edition

Starbucks-courtesy-Starbucks-Facebook-Page-500x330In the most recent GLoP Culture podcast, John Podhoretz said:

There is a risk on the horizon of a return to a 2012 rope-a-dope on the part of the Democrats that the Republicans may be falling into. And that has to do with the response to the Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case…

The question is, are Democrats going to go very, very hard on the issue of contraception, and paying for contraception, and government supporting contraception, and all of that, and will this then cause the Right to react the way the Right did to Sandra Fluke [and stoke the War on Women narrative]?
