Social Isolation and the Superfluous Men

I regularly read the journal American Affairs, which is a sophisticated populist journal that wisely strays away from sticking to any politician or political movement but is vaguely right-leaning. The journal is available in print or by online subscription. Marco Rubio has been interviewed for it. There was an article in the Winter 2020 issue called “The New Superfluous Men,” which looked at the increasingly sorry and questionable state of young men in western society. It was written by Alex Glender and there were several aspects of it that I wanted to analyze and then comment on:

As the story goes, by eroding traditional norms of monogamy and family life, social and technological developments such as feminism and the birth control pill intensified sexual competition by giving women more freedom to choose their partners without consequences.

I’m Not Renewing My Consumer Reports Subscription

I’ve been getting Consumer Reports (CR) for maybe 30 years. Over that time I’ve used it to research all kinds of consumer purchases from cars to appliances, TVs, headphones, computers, tires, luggage, tools, electric razors, you name it. A few years ago I began to notice a shift in the type of items CR covered. Instead of concentrating on basic consumer purchases, they started getting more into “issues.” Some examples just from the past year include:

“Whole Wheat, Soba, Legume Noodles: Which Are Healthiest?”

First Sunday Reflections

Two observations this first Sunday of June 2020: the Minnesota National Guard was ready the first night of trouble, and NASCAR has fully abased itself before the lying Left.

Today, I met an officer recently retired from the Army National Guard full-time program (AGR). He recently moved to Arizona for family reasons. He grew up in Minnesota as the wrong kind of minority, Asian American. He still talks with old unit members who still serve in the Minnesota National Guard.

Oberlin College Hit With Maximum Punitive Damages

The civil judgement against Oberlin College for its SJW mau-mauing of Gibson’s Bakery just tripled from $11 million to $33 million. Thursday, the jury assessed the maximum punitive damages of $22 million against the school. Legal Insurrection has been all over this:

Daniel McGraw, our reporter in the courtroom, reports that in addition to the $11.2 million compensatory damages awarded last Friday, the jury awarded a total of $33 million in punitive damages, which will probably be reduced by the court to $22 million because of the state law cap at twice compensatory (it’s not an absolute cap, but probably will apply here). That brings the total damages to $33 million. We will have the breakdown soon. The jury also awarded attorney’s fees, to be determined by the judge.

Get Woke, Go Broke: Democratic National Committee Version

“When the enemy is making a false movement, we must take good care not to interrupt him.” — Napoleon Bonaparte

If you watch CNN or MSNBC, you would think that Trump is on the verge of collapse and that the forces of (social) justice and (social) good (aka, the Democratic Party) are going to swoop down annnnnnny second now and free us from his evil grasp.
