Dan Rather Medals for News and Guts

I see that the University of Texas has inaugurated a journalism award named after Dan Rather. For those too young to remember, Dan Rather is infamous for attempting — unsuccessfully — to sway the 2004 Presidential race in favor of Democratic candidate John Kerry by launching a smear attack against Republican candidate President George W. Bush based on an obviously fraudulent document allegedly produced in the 1970s but in fact created using Microsoft Word.

In a similar spirit, I’d like to suggest a few more honors the learned folk at UT might like to bestow.

Of course a pundit is supposed to KNOW about the subject, but nonetheless I nominate Dan Rather. Not that I actually “follow” him, but a friend on Facebook linked one of his posts (he’s on Facebook) and it was about the President using his office to enrich himself, as confirmed fact with nothing behind it, […]

Truth Cries Out

Walking through downtown Mesa, AZ, the Monday after the Mueller report news broke, one of the public art statues leaped out at me. A newsboy stands astride his stack of newspapers, waving a copy over his head and shouting out the news. The front page has a one-word headline, all caps and bold: “TRUTH.” What a contrast to the sordid state of our current “journalism.”

The background is littered with paint cans and construction barriers. This is part of a facade renovation for downtown Main Street. How much more does our news business need renovation?

Walking by the same spot a few hours later, the facade work was done. Yet, there was no change in the businesses behind the facade. This was no reality television business makeover, with retrained staffs and refreshed concepts.

Beat The Press

It all started when my publicist and part-time rodeo clown, world-renowned public relations consultant, Robin “Hood” Wink, reached over and pulled out one of Chuck Chuck “Bo Buck” Todd’s newly planted hair plug sprouts during our appearance on his NBC (Nasty But Corrupt, Inc.) Sunday morning news show, Beat the Press.

“I got that seedling from Schumer!” Chuck Chuck screamed, then took a swing at Hood, which was a mistake. She blocked his punch, then reached across the desk, throttled him with his blue NBC tie, and twirled him around her head like a lasso before tossing him into the studio’s huge black-and-white Huntley-Brinkley diorama, smashing it to smithereens.

Faker Dan Rather Teaches Fake News

Disgraced former CBS news anchor Dan Rather is teaching an online course on how to spot fake news. For those of you who have been looking for a definition of “irony,” you’re welcome.

Calling Rather “disgraced” is accurate, and kind, really. In 2004, Rather, and his producer, Mary Mapes, pushed a story about then President George W. Bush. They claimed that Bush got preferential treatment while in the Texas Air National Guard. In addition, Rather and Mapes suggested that, “…he did his all to evade duty in Vietnam.”

The memos, supposedly from Bush’s late squadron leader, Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, claimed that there was pressure on him from higher ups to “sugarcoat” Bush’s Guard service.

The traditional TV networks are in decline, but NBC has come up with a humdinger of an idea to turn things around: a ‘dramedy’ about Democrat Superstar Wendy Davis! Yes, what could be a better topic to bring America together than a failed abortion activist who dumped her husband after finishing law school and mocked the physical […]
