Bestselling author, journalist, and environmental activist Michael Shellenberger joined host Ben Domenech to discuss climate alarmism and how the left wing media and activists have distorted the urgency of climate change. Shellenberger just published his most recent book, “Apocalypse Never: Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All,” this month.

Shellenberger condemned the left’s journalists, climate activists, and malthusian scientists for promoting climate alarmism. The radical left has taken an immoral position by denying vast, inexpensive energy sources to all people, he said, which they consider to be the moral center of apocalyptic environmentalism.

So, climate activist Greta Thunberg, ahead of the Davos forum, is demanding that the people who meet there “immediately halt all investments in fossil fuel exploration and extraction, immediately end all fossil fuel subsidies and immediately and completely divest from fossil fuels,” and do so “now” as in “right now.”  As one factor in considering how […]

Why Nobody Cares About the Climate, er, Debt Crisis

I’ll be as upfront as I can: this is not going to be a sophisticated analysis of the budget deficit, the national debt, and its implications on the economy going forward. What it is going to be, is the perception of ordinary people who know full well that all that stuff is way over their heads, and only have what they see and how their lives are going to judge the state of things by.

But first, a divergence into the seemingly unrelated issue of climate change. Why are initiatives such as the Green New Deal failing to catch on outside the most politically connected circles on the coasts? Sure, in the case of the GND specifically, you could argue it’s poorly written with highly impractical and arguably counterproductive goals. But I’m speaking in the general sense. Why is the hysteria of impending climate doom not having a whole lot of impact with any but the most politically aware voters?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-48755154 Now, climate change turns out to be this, after all and yet again. One would have thought the original premise that no one can escape would have scared the human race. But no, bad guys are planning to shield themselves and so the message is how the dastardly must be caught and stopped…with a […]

AOC Was Wrong, We Actually Have Only 5 Years Left

According to this article from 2004 (Read it and save it before it gets memory-holed), “Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters.”

Note the use of the very important word “could.” The of this auxiliary verb in the subjunctive mood is essential to all climate catastrophe articles. “Climate Change Could Cause Octopuses to Go Blind” (Well, at least Braille won’t be a problem for them)  “Climate change could bring bubonic plague back to Los Angeles” (Ah, silver linings.) “Climate Change Could Destroy Doomsday Vault (Well, what good is it, then?) You could even create a kind of “Climate Change Article Mad Libs” for these headlines. Climate Change Could Cause [PLURAL NOUN] to [VERB] [OBJECT NOUN] [ADVERB]. e.g. “Climate Change Could Cause AL GORE’S CHILDREN to EAT BOOGERS RAPIDLY.” But I digress.

My wife and I are going through our weekly penance and listening to the Sunday “Talking Heads Shows”.  The first is Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.  He started off saying they were going to do something unusual and focus the entire hour on one issue – Climate Change.  He also said that since the […]

I ran across this article today: Are we stuck with cement? The article points out that cement is made from limestone, releasing carbon dioxide in the process. It seems like there are substitutes but there is little information on ready, available and effective they will be. Given how commonly used cement is in concrete and […]

Rick Perry Is Right: CO2 Is Not the Control Knob of Climate

Energy Secretary Rick PerryTo listen to the corrupt, know-nothing mainstream media, Energy Secretary Rick Perry really stepped in it when he said human emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) is not the major driver of global warming. And, as usual with the MSM, it’s not true. The story is merely fodder for a false narrative about Perry, and the state of climate science.

On Monday, CNBC “Squawk Box” host Joe Kernen asked the secretary whether he believes carbon dioxide “is the primary control knob for the temperature of the Earth and for climate.” Perry’s answer:

No, most likely the primary control knob is the ocean waters and this environment that we live in. … The fact is this shouldn’t be a debate about, ‘Is the climate changing, is man having an effect on it?’ Yeah, we are. The question should be just how much, and what are the policy changes that we need to make to effect that?

Dear President-elect Trump: Don’t Listen to Ben Santer or Other Climate Alarmists

Ben Santer: Climate Alarmist

On December 22, Ben Santer – one of the climate scientists most responsible for politicizing and then corrupting climate science — wrote an open letter to Donald Trump once again pretending to speak on behalf of “science.” We can expect many such cries of despair and shouts begging for attention (and continued funding) in the future. In the Trump administration — whether it lasts four years or eight — such histrionics will be a growth industry.

The American Physical Society (APS) is contemplating issuing a new public statement on energy policy. Over the years, the APS has delved ever deeper into political advocacy rather than confining itself to the purpose listed in its charter: “… to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics.” They are seeking comments from members. The proposed […]

A common formulation of reporting on climate change or global warming on parts of the right now-a-days starts with “Human Induced Global Warming is Real and Serious, …..” A certain class of pundits and observers, lacking the math chops to actually look at the statistical torture conducted by climate “scientists”, can’t seem to accept that […]

According to the Guardian, scienticians now are certain that earthquakes are caused by Climate Change, which is in turn caused by human economic activity. Earthquakes happen when the tectonic plates underneath the Earth’s oceans and continents shift, according to a theory promulgated by white male scientists. According to scienticians, 100% of the most devastating earthquakes […]

If the left is serious about making global warming dissent illegal, they should consider throwing the book at the one group most responsible for discrediting the global warming “narrative”: Global Warming Alarmists. They have: Cherry-picked data, eliminating data points that do not fit their claims Denied their data to other researchers Destroyed data rather than […]

Climate Wars Heat-up Again

j9CmoiHJ_400x400The American Physical Society (APS) — of which I am a member — is looking to revise its Climate Change Statement. Many scientific societies have decided to issue statements about global warming/climate change. Don’t ask me why they feel the need to do this.

The last statement issued by the APS in 2007 was such a disaster that they had to backpedal in 2010 with a convoluted explanation of why it didn’t say what everyone thought it said. This time around, they convened a panel of experts headed up by Steve Koonin, formerly of Caltech and recently an undersecretary in the Dept. of Energy in the Obama administration. Koonin held a workshop last year to try work out the text of the new statement. Subsequently, Koonin quit the panel responsible for the new statement (Panel on Public Affairs – POPA) and published the opinion piece “Climate Science Is Not Settled” in the Wall Street Journal. Judging by that op-ed, things didn’t work out as he hoped.

Now APS is asking for comments about the new proposed statement. It’s unlikely that member comments made to APS directly will be made public, so Judy Curry — Georgia Tech climatologist and now-famous global warming apostate — is collecting comments from APS members in her blog. Mostly skeptics and contrarians are posting. The comments make for amusing reading.
