Government Transparency Website Loses Track of $619 Billion


In a government filled with lousy websites, USASpending.gov stands out as particularly awful. The design is straight out of a 1998 CompuServe user forum, but that’s cosmetic. The worst part is that the site is atrocious at fulfilling its legal duty.

Congress mandated that the website make government spending more transparent by listing the who, what and how much of federal contracts. How’s USASpending doing? Well, it makes HealthCare.gov look like a model of technological genius.
