The amount of State gun laws nearly doubled between 1991 and 2016 (Source). The first Federal gun control law was passed in the 1934 National Firearms Act, which limited civilians’ access to machine guns, suppressors, short-barreled shotguns, and others (Source). Between 1886 and 2023, the Supreme Court of the United States interpreted the Second Amendment […]

The sheer volume of firearms in the United States is a point of contention for almost every American. Some believe we have too few, while others believe we have too many. Nonetheless, firearms are a large part of American culture. We value our liberties, the natural right to self-defense, the inherent check on state power […]

In the run up to the 2012 election, both President Obama and Governor Romney downplayed the topic of gun control – even though Americans were on pace to buy more firearms than ever before. Because neither candidate was an avid shooter, special interest groups such as the NRA and the Brady Campaign dominated much of […]

The ink was still wet on a reported “deal” involving fixes to current federal and state gun laws before the far-left media organ Axios repeated Democratic spin: The bipartisan gun safety deal announced today falls well short of what President Biden has called for but still marks the first time in decades Republicans have shown […]

Gun Control … Again (Sigh)

Here I am posting about a subject that seems so absurd I don’t feel it’s worth my time to even debate the progressives about it. Here’s what hooks me into it … conservatives. Those who should know better say things like “sensible gun control” and “no one needs assault weapons.”

Charles Cooke has a great, yet very small, article in National Review titled “Statistics Matter in Statistical Disputes.” It notes that the Associated Press counts 169 mass school shooting deaths in 23 years.

Confessions of a 2A Absolutist

Hello, my name is Postmodern Hoplite, and I am a “Second Amendment Absolutist.”

I believe that the right to keep and bear arms recognized in the US Constitution is so broad and expansive that it extends to include tanks, artillery, combat aircraft, and even atomic weapons (at least in principle, if not in fact.)

OC Gun Show: Let No Crisis Go to Waste/Refuge For the Weary

California State Senator Dave Min of Irvine and Katie Porter, from the US House of Representatives, Democrats, both attended the Orange County, CA gun show this weekend.  They were, reportedly, escorted by sheriffs and were kept far from the deviant potential gun-owners that they ostensibly came to observe.

Oddly enough, no media appears to exist about these visits, only local word of mouth and eyewitness accounts.  It appears that they may be biding their time on their anti-gun stances until the moment is slightly more favorable.  It can only be assumed that their strange appearances may be related to Dave Min’s bill to ban gun shows on government property, but they have not chosen to openly disclose their time at the shows.  Possibly because it would not be inflammatory enough for the restrictions they are advocating.

Silence Is Consent

We know that President Trump relies heavily on the feedback he gets from MAGA rally crowds. If Second Amendment voters are keeping silent on gun control and just cheering at Trump’s rallies, he reasonably believes he has them on his side. So it is a great shame on every gun owner who showed up at the New Hampshire Trump reelection rally unprepared, with several friends, to start chanting “Keep Your Word!” That sound of silence was reasonably taken by President Trump as confirmation that he could talk his 2016 voters into any position he takes in 2019.

He was so cocky as to say “you have no choice but to vote for me.” The crowd should have chanted back “Romney, Romney, Romney, Keep Your Word, Keep Your Word, Keep Your Word.” They failed to push him back onto the rails, even though rally crowds have independently raised other chants.

The Rime of the Ancient Libertarian

“I used to be a registered Libertarian and I have the Gary Johnson yard signs to prove it.”

Think back into the past with me, back to the dark days of April, 2016. Bernie Sanders has become the first (and I believe only) American Presidential candidate to receive an invitation to meet with the Roman Pope, Hillary Clinton is lapping up primary elections like an old dog about to die, and that joke candidate from the 2012 Presidential election, Donald J. Trump, just won’t stop winning.

The common theme in this month’s Group Writing group is “Order”. I am interpreting “order” as analogous to “well-regulated”, specifically as in, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” I think it is time to […]
