Ryan Secrest Is a Freak

Ryan Secrest pleaded guilty Monday to illegally videotaping female coworkers taking showers at the workplace. He’s been sentenced to 10 months behind bars.

Teaming up with seven of his friends, Ryan Secrest waited until the women had finished working out in the gym, then made illicit recordings of them in the shower area. He used his cellphone camera to film the women, then lied to investigators about the incident. The men then traded the videos like Pokemon cards, according to prosecutors.

The female victims were among the first to work alongside Ryan Secrest. They all had promising careers that were disrupted and derailed by the incident. Ryan Secrest declined to comment on his sentencing.

Note: Of course, I’m talking about Naval Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan Secrest, not the cheesy radio and television host Ryan Seacrest, who spells his name totally different. But, truth be told, I think he’s a freak too.

You had me worried there Jon. I was afraid that yet another American Idol has dethroned himself.

I’m going to be the wet blanket here. The bulk of this post, being that it bore the photo of Ryan Seacrest, is defamatory. Had I not clicked on the “read more” I would not have discovered the truth.

Crap like this is why I stopped visiting Breitbart a few years ago, when their teaser headlines were designed to provoke outrage, frequently misrepresenting the facts of whatever story there was.

Breitbart headline: “[Female Celebrity] threatens to slap Piers Morgan!” Yet when one actually watches the video in question, you find that the two were mutually enjoying some witty repartee during which she said, “I should slap you!”

As a conservative, I think truth is one of our best weapons, and it does us no good to distort it. Lose the photo.

SIGH. Okay. I’ll lose the photo. Even though it makes it funnier.

The photo is the hook. I really don’t think Jon was hiding the truth or defaming Mr. Seacrest.

Bring back the photo.  Just label it “NOT RYAN SECREST.”

Disgraceful conduct, I am pleased the navy took the hammer to this man and his co-conspirators.

The victims in this case were female U.S. Navy officers on a vessel, among the first female officers to serve on a submarine. A truly disgraceful crime.

Call me old fashioned but………this highlights the fact that women and men need some separation in cases like this.

    • Men should not be guards in women’s prison.
    • Women should not be guards in women’s prison (see Matt and Sweat).
    •  Women should not be on submarines.

You confine men and women into small spaces and things will go wrong.

Don’t forget how young (18-early 20’s) these people are. When the Navy integrated females into the security forces where I work they had to hold a “safety stand down” within six months to address the herpes outbreak. The young sailor nick named “the clearing barrel” by the marines (everyone went to her to unload his gun…) had to be transferred to a different command. Sure, things have smoothed out years later, but the transition was very rough.

If Ryan Seacrest were caught videotaping naked people I somehow don’t think it would be women.

I have fewer problems (though not none at all) with young men and young women being stupid together on a submarine or other vessel  than I do with young men (or young women) being creepy and disgusting toward other young persons who have not consented to being part of their fun. There’s a difference between unwise behavior and predatory behavior.

Guruforhire—she had bad taste in men. Lucky for you.

Kate, just imagine if they’d integrated enlisted first instead of officers. At least the rank/authority difference kept this to as few incidence as it did — or at least to as few as are known.

It’s a good thing you added that note in italics at the end.  Before reaching it all I could say was “WHAT, THE GUY ON TV?”

I don’t know what possesses men – I’ve never heard of women doing it – to doing stupid things like this.  In today’s world you can just go on the internet for porn.  Now that I think of it, maybe he intended to sell the videotape.  Anyway, 10 months seems light to me.  He should have gotten more.

I have the good fortune to have no idea who Ryan Secrest/Seacrest is.

But I think it is absolutely inevitable that men and women working in close proximity  will end up entangled. This is true in any work environment, but most acute where there is no opportunity for personal space (1/d^2). I don’t see this as a bad thing necessarily – it is merely something that we have to take into account when designing that environment.

As for taking pictures… here is a semi-serious question: No data is private any more. Everything that can be digitized, is. And once it exists on a computer somewhere, it is theoretically accessible to everyone on the planet.

Why do we view our actual bodies as somehow an exception? Isn’t seeing everyone else nekkid just the logical extension of where society is already headed?

This is exactly why the military had rules against homosexuality and was sexually segregated. These “entanglements” are horrible for unit morale and discipline and have a tendency to get people killed.
