Breaking: Bobby Jindal Has Dropped Out

Just now, live on “Fox News Special Report” with Bret Baier, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has announced that he is dropping out of the GOP presidential race.

He has placed a full announcement on his Facebook page:

I cannot tell you what an honor it has been to run for President of the United States of America. My parents came to this country 45 years ago searching for freedom and a chance.

When I was born, we lived in student housing at LSU, and never in their wildest dreams did they think their son would have the opportunity to serve as Governor of Louisiana or to run for President.

They raised me to believe Americans can do anything, and they were right, we can. But this is not my time, so I am suspending my campaign for President.

Going forward, I believe we have to be the party of growth and we can never stop being the party that believes in opportunity. We cannot settle for The Left’s view of envy and division. We have to be the party that says everyone in this country — no matter the circumstances of their birth or who their parents are — can succeed in America.

One of the things I will do is go back to work at the think tank I started a few years ago — where I will be outlining a blueprint for making this the American century.

We must show the way forward on growing our economy and winning the war against terror, and especially defeating radical Islam.

I realize that our country is off on the wrong track right now. Everyone knows that, but don’t forget, this is still the greatest country in the history of the world — and every single one of us should start every day by thanking God that we are fortunate enough to be US citizens.

Now is the time for all those Americans who still believe in freedom and American exceptionalism to stand up and defend it. The idea of America — the idea that my parents came here for almost a half a century ago — that idea is slipping away from us. Freedom is under assault from both outside our borders and from within. We must act now, we do not have a moment to spare.

Too bad. There are several others I’d have preferred to have gone next.

yes … but, at the same time, we’re really only talking about the order of things.  It’s almost a “not-so-breaking” sort of post with Jindal.  But I think now we should be having earnest discussions about who would make the best VP.  I wish I could get in the heads of some of these candidates to see what they’re really thinking about.

Bobby hunted down an MIA Syrian refugee today.

We should elect him President just for that.

I’d say Jindal makes the short list. Or, he should.

Remind us again how this is the strongest field ever with Gov’s Perry, Waker, and Jindal home on the couch and John Kasich raving like a lunatic on the main stage.

He was my #1 choice. I wish him well and hope that he continues to serve this country – he has so much to offer.

Since Perry and Walker are gone, I was hoping Jindal would make it to the finish line. Such a bummer.

If Kasich is polling higher than Perry, Walker and Jindal, that says more about the people being polled than the candidates.

    Sadly correct.

Edit: I think it also says something about their short to medium term financial management and expectations.

Never gained any rapport with national GOP voters, and seems to have lost faith of LA GOP voters as well.  Wasn’t the 2009 SOTU response, which wasn’t nearly as disastrous as Clinton’s 1988 keynote.  Lacks that “certain something” that gives politicians compelling media appeal, which is not reducible to looks (present POTUS looks like an older Urkel), height or accent but involves such superficialities.

Good news:  could be outstanding HHS secretary.  Dismantling federal role in health care is a pipe dream.  But reconstructing it with market approaches, some real and some pseudo, is possible.

That will take intelligence and policy guts, both of which Gov. Jindal has in superabundance.

So true. Jindal had no cadence, he spewed fact-packed brain dumps talking as fast as John Moschitta and grinning like Howdy Doody.

Media presence is so important, for better or worse. “Worse” you chorus, but one of the main duties of the President, since FDR first went on the radio, is rousing the public through media.

JFK and Reagan had it. Clinton, W, and Obama had more than their foes.

HRC doesn’t have it at all, but her hair stylist did a good job before the most recent debate. She needs to hire a cackle stylist.

Nixon didn’t have it, and he probably lost to JFK because he didn’t hire a good make-up artist. But then he hired some top media men, found an issue (law & order) and got elected twice.

    Agreed.

But as with all things in politics, they’re taking calculated risks. Rubio and Cruz are running lean operations right now — as Walker probably planned to do before he started acting like a too-confident frontrunner. That seems wise in comparison to the big spenders, but on the other hand we could, come February and March, be talking about how they hadn’t been able to invest and build the infrastructure they needed for a long primary…

Great, now for the job Bobby was born to do- restructure the executive branch for President Trump/Carson/Cruz/Fiorina/Rubio as Chief of Cabinet, a new role which will drive the complete overhaul of every agency and department.

That is the most depressing part of this election cycle.  I was cheering along with the rest of the Ricochetti when Rob/Peter/James kept talking about how this is the strongest field in decades and there is nothing anyone can do to mess it up because anyone would be fantastic.

That was pre-Trump.  If it was just Kasich by himself (lone lunatic, I mean), it wouldn’t be half bad.

I’m saddened by this whole situation. I have greatly admired all three of the folks who have called it quits. Like many on here, I find it so troubling that both, so many are left that seem to be so weak and also that Trump continues to persevere. I still like a few of the folks but I’m starting to get a very bad feeling about all this.
