Dear Jay: thanks so much for this program. I love Hoe Down by Copland – it brings to mind Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russel.
Jay, forgive the familiarity, but I have listened to you and Mona for so long that you feel like old friends. I am totally impressed with your knowledge of music. The segments played were mostly new to me with the exception of Copland. They were a remarkable selection, like opening a window where before there was a blank wall. Your multifaceted genius never fails to impress. I was introduced to Leontine Price when quite young. John Bubbles, who was a friend of my father’s, gave me a vinyl recording of Porgy and Bess in which he was featured as part of a dream cast with William Warfield and Leontine Price. I have never found any recording of Porgy and Bess that was more powerful than that one. Price was truly a treasure. Thank for a very entertaining podcast.
Thank you, Jay. I was especially glad to hear the Ravel and the Taylor, which I’d not known at all. So much more wonderful American music comes to mind from hearing these. We are blessed.
I have been very critical of you, Jay, regarding your reaction to the presumptive nomination of Trump.
In light of this, I wish to offer my appreciation for this episode which I and my family listened to returning from a weekend at Harpers Ferry. My daughter, who is a budding 14 year old opera singer, greatly enjoyed it, and we were much appreciative.
