Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
This week, all we’ve got all is questions: Is ObamaCare decided? Are conservatives who watch MSNBC masochists? Is Jeb Bush a tarnished brand? What should the US response to Russia’s invasion of Russia? Are we in danger of a Michael Totten predicted zombie apocalypse? What does Utah Senator Mike Lee think about Hobby Lobby and who will get Harry Reid’s office when the Republicans take back the Senate? Finally, when will James Lileks announce his quixotic campaign to unseat Al Franken? Will Rob be seduced by the power of the director’s chair? The answers to all these questions are contained here within this podcast. But you must listen to receive the answers. Do your duty, people!
Music from this week’s podcast:Zombie by The Cranberries
The Ricochet Podcast opening theme was written and produced by James Lileks.
That’s a work of art, EJHill

Yeti,
I’m assuming this podcast is back behind the paywall? If you get a moment (I say that tongue-in-cheek), could you check on the podcatcher “KiesCast,” which is the podcatcher for Samsung phones (galaxy, note, etc…). Mine gives me no option to enter a password, so I can get all podcasts EXCEPT the flagship. Thanks!

Let me know if that doesn’t work.
THE CRANBERRIES!!!!! I LOVE The Cranberries my favorite all time band ( take that as you will ) who chose the music? Well done.
Also someone needs to inform Rob that New England is NOT purple it is Navy Blue if anything
That song made me want to puncture my eardrums with two sharp instruments. That breaky thing she does with her voice sounds like a bad case of the hiccups.
Just my opinion, YMMV.
You are entitled to your opinion,
P.I.L. reference – awesome!
I’ll have to check out Mr. Totten’s novel. A character driven apocalyptic story would be refreshing. Perhaps The Walking Dead is in such a category – but TWD characters don’t respect danger realistically and the horrific gun use and tactics are little better than a 70’s SWAT episode.
Perhaps Mr Totten gets these things right.
worked like a charm, yeti. Thanks!
I could be wrong but I got the sense that James was keeping his powder dry in the quick and fleeting discussion about Jeb Bush possibly because of his time constraints and obligations as the moderator-clock watcher-segue master-and guest introducer for the show. For the record there are more objections to Bush becoming the standard bearer of the Party than simply his last name as a handful of recent discussions on Ricochet will attest. If you (Peter, Rob and James) feel compelled to bring up and discuss the issues, both positive and negative, swirling around a potential Bush candidacy then a more detailed discussion might be in order and maybe inviting a couple of pundits on either side of this question might be better than glossing over the concerns of the membership about this great conservative. Or perhaps an entire episode with prognosticators, pundits or advocates discussing all the potential Republican candidates might be in order. I think we would understand if it might be better to tee up this kind of podcast after candidates have declared but please do consider it. Think of it as sort of a Ricochet preview before the mayhem of the coming primaries.
Peter, your point about Atlas and toilet paper was just awesome.
Good fact. I’ll need to use it.
And if they were to “go Galt” in true Atlas Shrugged style (which if they did, they would) they’d also burn the toilet paper plants to the ground.
I can’t tag this post (but maybe the podcast should be tagged), but if I could I would tag it with Toilet Paper and Sustainability.
Also, I’m glad that EJ Hill didn’t use Jame’s sponge-on-a-stick for the image.
the Cranberries are wonderful but Zombie is not one of their better songs
Linger otoh, is beautiful
I actually think that James’ Water Feature is more of a problem than his Gazebo. James, now that the Water Feature actually works (or will, when spring comes), you should plow it under. That will rejuvenate your workingman bona fides.
I think Rob’s idea to hold the Convention in Detroit has a lot of merit, but it needs to be thought through. It’s a bold idea, but it comes with clear risks that need to be explored and addressed.
It’s not enough to use the city as an example of the failure of Liberal politics, simply to “go after their weakness.” If we hold the convention there, Detroit becomes ours. It would hang the future of the party, to some degree, on that city’s future. Are the players there so different today that we would place that kind of wager for only short-term political points?
It’s a risky gambit that I think needs 1) a serious commitment to urban renewal 2) a radical plan of implementation behind it, and 3) fruitful ground from which those seeds can grow. Otherwise, it simply gives Democrats an excuse to snatch the albatross from their own necks and hang it on ours.
I just listened to the P.I.L. song on youtube. it is a pretty compelling piece of soundtracky minimalism, which I assume Lydon had little to do with actually writing, beyond the concept.
their debut hit, which they never matched.
But it doesn’t work. It broke at the end of last summer. I am redoing the entire thing with the help of my astonishing jack-of-all-trades home-improvement guy; whatever it costs, it’ll be worth it to see him shake his head at what the previous guy built.
Interesting that you said “soundtracky,” because it was used in . . . a Miami Vice episode. Which was one of the darkest and most disturbing things they ever aired.
i saw that mentioned in the comments under the video.
immediately to the right of the podcast is that stupid ad about a petition to force “Koch-backed front groups” to disclose their donors.
OK, that one’s better.
