Just so the Yeti doesn’t feel bad I’d like to say that I never have trouble downloading the podcast. If only that luck worked with the lottery.
Am I the only one who is both shocked and horrified that it’s going to take one billion dollars to elect someone to the Presidency? If the founding fathers could’ve looked into the future and seen what we’ve become I think they might just have decided to go back to their farms and not bother.
Animositas – As George Will likes to point out, the American people spend $2.5 billion every year on Halloween candy and another $2 billion six months later on Easter candy. If we can spend that much money each and every year to rot away our teeth why are afraid to spend a fraction of that every four years to find a president?

Hey, James, did Costa even know you were going to do an ad during his segment? If not, bad form for capping on him. I mean sure, Rob deserves it, and maybe Troy, but Robert? He really seemed to just want to tell his Biden story.
Archie: oh, it’s all part of the joke. And if I recall, Bob elbowed in on what I was saying, and to quote Jasper from the Simpsons, that’s a paddlin’.
Troy and Rob made a great point about Buchanan and Santorum’s real appeal in the GOP. The folks that run the RNC better take into account some of their ideas and apply them to the platform.
Here’s the rub — and I don’t know if Rob has the same concerns on this as I do: How do you cater to those concerns without giving up on some core principles? Buchanan endorses protectionism, which is a non-starter for me. Santorum wanted special tax treatment for manufacturers, which is less repulsive by miles, but still not terribly appealing to those of us who think the tax code should have as few carve-outs as possible.
I don’t know the answer. Would be curious to hear what others think.
I think Rob is instigating this, James, watch the trend in 2015. Stand firm, it’s now a game of chess, and great sport. Keep up the good work.
I know Jim Webb would never win a Democrat nomination, but he might be Hillary’s Pat Buchanan, with enough impact to dream third party dreams. How would an independent Webb/Corker ticket fare against Hillary and Jeb?
Also considering how much the media environment has changed over the last decade – Bill Cosby’s transgressions being a good example – do you still think Hillary will get a free ride on cattle futures, billing records materializing as soon as the statute of limitations has expired, etc.? I remember a book on Chappaquiddick was a best seller in the 90’s because a whole generation needed to relearn what everyone was referring to when discussing Ted Kennedy. Maybe Hillary’s path won’t be anointed.
Rob Long, check out Rick Perry. He seems to be the candidate that is most fitting your populist ideal. That whole Texas model and making more jobs than anyone else. But also he seems to be trying to come up with a line similar to a shining city on the hill with his recent speeches.
Yeti, a little note. I don’t know if any code has been addressed, but this is the very first time that I have listened to a podcast on the site in one tab, went to other tabs during the podcast, and not have the podcast freeze, usually multiple times. It played straight through.

Well, if Costa knew what was up, then he deserves the wrath with the smiting and the blood rain and they hey hey hey it hurts me.
I have the same trouble as Don. I don’t see any of the recently released podcasts on the Super Feed. I had to go and subscribe to each individual podcast to get the most recent ones.
I am stumped on 15 also.

In terms of appealing to working class voters Republicans could take a stronger stance against affirmative action and immigration, though I know the latter issue might split the party.
I agree on policy, but both men tap into a vein of thought that could bring the “Reagan Democrats” permanently into the Red column. As one of the panelists said (it has been three days since I listened to the podcast) not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur. A lot of us just want a steady job, a decent living, and a picket fence with three kids and a wife. Romneynomics doesn’t speak to those folks.
I think part of the problem is that Republicans don’t do identity politics really well. Republicans want to appeal to all people as Americans and on the strength of their ideas which they believe work for all people. However, the truth is that they must get a huge percentage of the white vote to be viable, and they can’t make a naked appeal to them for fear of violating their principles or being accused of being racist. Quite the conundrum.
