Direct Link to MP3 File

It’s a Saturday afternoon special edition of the Hinderaker-Ward Experience (HWX). John Hinderaker of Power Line and Brian Ward of Fraters Libertas convene to discuss the BIG issues of the week. And for a week like this, it’s fortutious to have as your hosts a Harvard Law graduate and a guy that’s seen the Paper Chase about a dozen times (Speak louder, Mr. Hart! Fill the room with your intelligence!) . Topics addressed:

* Supreme Court decision on the Voting Rights Act

* Supreme Court decision on California’s Proposition 8

* Supreme Court decision on the Defense of Marriage Act

* Immigration bill passing US Senate

* The trial of George Zimmerman

They are also joined by forensic psychologist Helen Smith,to discuss her fascinating new book Men on Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream – and Why It Matters.

I havent purchased the book but I think that very little can be done by lower status males.

  2. Guruforhire

I think Men should go Danneskjöld instead of Galt.  Maybe its just me though.

Great episode.  Interesting interview with Helen, who seems to be quantifying (or at least taking a stab at it) the reasons behind some of the behavioral changes in men regarding marriage.  There is always a reason why things change, and if the culture, in one form or another, ignores it, then we shouldn’t be surprised to wake up one day and find out that the basis for equal treatment under the law despite gender differences has gone so far beyond that to result in male behaviors that would probably not have been tolerated by families and friends just a couple of decades ago.

The word we used to use to describe loads who live at home into their 30′s and play video games all day was “loser”.  I’m not sure what the new name for this is, but I am quite confident that it’s not “winner”.

My sons are teens and know and articulate the points discussed with Dr Helen. She is quite correct that the young males have figured out the rules and incentives.

It is true that women want a man to behave like a woman once in the marriage

My sons are also aware of the age switch, as they get older, they will gain in power and attractiveness particularly if they have a job and house, etc.

This book should be marketed to mothers of sons. I educated my sons about the feminist onslaught so they are aware. I was particularly pleased when my son had a campus dorm meeting and the speaker opened up with “sexual assault is a male problem”.

My son put up his hand and said this hurt his feelings very much. He said the stickers with the phrase made him feel bad as he would never be someone to assault a woman. The speaker was thrown.

Using the hurt feelings phrase worked very well. My sons know how to fight back, but in a womanly way. Sad, isn’t it? But he said this year they had changed the stickers.

Great episode, but I the volume on the clips are really low – I couldn’t even hear the second one. Hope this gets fixed in future episodes!
