The Peloponnesian War was one of the most catastrophic conflicts of the ancient world—protracted, brutal, and disastrous for the Athenian hegemony that had grown over the course of the early 5th century BC. In this episode of “Young Heretics,” classical scholar and military history expert Victor Davis Hanson joins Spencer Klavan to discuss the war’s causes, tactics, and consequences.

Thanks for the interview of Professor Hanson.Â
Nothing in history is so inevitable as the mistakes of civilizations being repeated.Â
I’m not sure China and the US will go to war. But Hanson explained that China is weaker, not that China is unwilling. WWII France outmatched Germany and still lost that contest.
Excellent! Far down the line, say six months or so, when you feel inclined to wax on the value of Western Civilization and the assault on Classical Education, bring VDH back to talk about Who Killed Homer?
