Don’t let the title fool you: This is not a soap opera episode of the Young Americans. But it does cover one of the most important things in the world: children. Specifically, why young people are having fewer of them, and later. Host Jack Butler and veteran YA panelist Caleb Whitmer explore this topic with the help of two new panelists: Kayla Stetzel, and Weekly Standard factchecker Holmes Lybrand, who is now a father.

Why does that magazine call itself the Jacobin? Weren’t the Jacobins those who wanted to restore a Roman Catholic King in Britain the 1700s? Please answer if you or anyone has a good answer.

    Those were the Jacobites.

The Jacobins were radicals who supported (and brought about) the French Revolution. The label “jacobin,” used generically, can describe any left-wing revolutionary.

    . . .

As for the podcast, Caleb (or Holmes?) is right to mention the subject of dating. Dating and childbearing — and marriage, ideally — are inextricably linked. It takes two, after all, and something has to bring that duo together.

It was Holmes. And yes, that is how making babies works. Or so I am told.

My history knowledge wasn’t up to snuff and I had to look up Jacobin when, in early G-Files, Cosmo would rant about Jacobin squirrels.
