Mueller rewrote the statute to include intent in letting HRC off in July 2016. A normal person would have been sentenced to a long term in prisonfor a comparable offense. Mueller reopened the case in October because he was facing a revolt by FBI agents and the NYPD. Douthat appears to be unfamiliar with the particulars of what happened. He needs to read Andy McCarthy and Mollie Hemingway on these issues. The misuse of FISA to spy on the Trump campaign was outrageous.
I’m surprised he had no thoughts about the damage this investigation is doing to our confidence in the justice system. I, and millions of other Americans, will never again regard the FBI with the same respect we had before Mueller/Comey. The deep state has been exposed.
Mueller or Comey?
I think voter confidence is waining in all the institutions. However, whatever one’s opinion is of the President, those who do not acknowledge the disinfecting sunlight being a long-term benefit that will lead to rebuilding trust are not seeing the forest for the trees. None of this would have happened under a Hillary admin.
Comey was head of the FBI during the time period when the spying on the Trump campaign occurred. If memory serves, they both played a role in getting Ashcroft to recuse himself and having Fitzgerald appointed in W’s administration. That led to the Scooter Libby persecution. The MO is similar which is not a coincidence.
