He explained the attraction to socialism perfectly. You never hear anybody on the right talk like that. It’s the same thing with the pro Trump vote and populism. The GOPe is too stupid and corrupt to think about this.
Dave Sussman‘s Whiskey Politics podcast has been on fire lately – and I mean that in a good way. Great rants, great guests, great questions, great discussion.
A couple of corrections/clarifications:
Same school, same degree perhaps, but I can virtually guarantee it’s not the same education. By every measure – absolute and relative – higher education in the US is dramatically lower in quality than it was 30+ years ago, when Dave Sussman (and I) attended. My background is engineering, and I’ve seen firsthand how engineering students of today are simply not exposed to, much less required to master concepts that were fundamental to any engineering degree. In the liberal arts, I’ve heard reports that a student can graduate from Princeton with a B.A. in English, without having read a single word of Shakespeare. Heck, colleges today give credit for AP psychology classes that are routinely taken by high school freshmen. What responsible adult honestly believes that he or she could master college level material as a high school freshman? College degrees today aren’t worth the paper they’re probably not even printed on.
