Carl Sagan, whatever his political views, did not impose them on his account of the history of science in his TV series, Cosmos, which is very much worth watching if you get a chance. He gives the true narrative, that is, that science was developed mostly by dead white guys from Europe.

By contrast, the new Cosmos series is politicized in the worst sort of way, with a whole hour spent on a tendentious account of: leaded gasoline! It even dabbles in a kind of Afrocentrism, with some Mesopotamians (but not others) depicted as black.

I’ve seen many times where someone is brilliant in one field, then gets into another field, and shows incompetence.
