The guys come off as a bit thick in this one — as if they’ve never heard of a President jawboning industry before.
Nor did they consider the possibility that the intended audience for Trump’s remarks was China.
N.B.: Given the kind of powers that Congress and the courts have granted to the modern Presidency, when the guys talk about this or that action being “unconstitutional”, that may be merely wishful thinking on their part.
Also a bit thick in the remarks about Maria Butina and the Overstock.com guy. Why didn’t she vamp somebody more important, nyuk nyuk!
Obviously, in espionage as in other things, you take what you can get; you use relationships you have, not relationships you don’t have.
Did she think she couldn’t get to anyone more important? Sad.
You have to start somewhere, presumably; become a regular in the circles of the super-rich.
N.B.: I read somewhere that the case against her was a frame.
Which sounds a lot more believable now that it would have in, say, 2016!
Or maybe she stopped there because she found she liked the guy, and didn’t want to “move up” to someone she might hate.
