Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America applaud President Trump’s strong defense of the value of Western civilization in his speech in Poland Wednesday. They also express disappointment in comments made by Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey conceding Republicans failed to prepare a healthcare repeal and replace bill because they didn’t believe Trump would win the election. Finally, they decry New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for protesting President Trump in Germany in the midst of ongoing crises in his city.

Speaking for one listener, I do enjoy your Die Hard obsession.

I’ve never been a fan of Trump, but insofar as he articulates actual Western values in these international settings, I give him a thumb’s up.

As for how much of it he really means, I’d note that he’s old enough to remember the Soviet Union and the rhetoric of the Cold War, and I doubt he ever apologized for the USSR back in the day. So when his speechwriters come up with Truth, Justice, and the American Way phraseology, it wouldn’t feel wrong in his mouth.

After eight years of Obama’s Edward Said impersonations, that’s good enough for me.

The Die Hard references will never get old. I’m basing this on the Einsteinian model of Space-Time, of course.
