Join Jim and Greg as they credit Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for taking action on the border crisis while the Biden administration dithers. They also react to the explosive Vanity Fair story exposing how State Department officials and scientists furiously tried to stop investigations into whether COVID-19 leaked from a Wuhan lab. And they sympathize with residents in eastern Oregon who want to secede to Idaho. While they think the likelihood of that happening is low, they also devise an incentive system for state governments to improve.

I’m liking this free agency idea, but I think the other counties also ought to be able to kick a county out of the state. Wayne County, Michigan has questionable election results? Make them join Ontario.

You wouldn’t want Wayne County to become its own state with two Senators!  (Senator Rashida Tlaib?)

If memory serves you live in the Upper Peninsula (the “UP”).  If you had to choose, would the UP be part of Michigan, Wisconsin or your own state?  If you were your own state, what would be your new name; please not North Michigan.

Given that each state in the continental U.S. has an East-West and a North-South freeway, how would you feel about an East-West freeway through the UP?

I have a review of Jim’s two new books in the Main Feed.  They are great books and lots of fun.  I recommend that you read them in order, even though the second book is really timely as it is set during the pandemic.

Taking Jim’s suggestion further could counties be traded?

Your memory does not serve. I’m a Troll. I live below the bridge.

In fact, I live in one of the counties just north of Wayne County.

Counties switching from Oregon to Idaho wouldn’t increase their total representation in Congress, so I’m not sure what the purpose is.  In any event I think the Oregon legislature would have to consent and they probably wouldn’t want to lose the “free revenue” that they don’t have to do anything those counties like, in order to receive it.
