Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America welcome the news that over a million Americans left the food stamp rolls in the first few months of the Trump administration and discuss new state work requirements and immigration law enforcement as contributing factors to this continuing decrease in government dependence.  They’re also exasperated as Google fires an engineer for writing an internal memo criticizing Google for a diversity culture that is not at all diverse and makes people feel as though they’ll get fired if they say anything that doesn’t square with corporate ideology.  And they get a kick out of Spike Lee scheduling a “United We Stand for Colin Kaepernick” protest outside of NFL headquarters later this month.

I am a woman in IT. My background is in the humanities: language and literature. I now write user manuals for a major software firm.

It is literally my job to pick the brains of the coders so that I can write up explanations of what the product does. Almost unfailingly it takes me more than one try to get the response I need, because the coders approach the product from a perspective that is SO different from mine that they usually misunderstand what I’m asking for, so they provide an answer that is entirely accurate but not useful in that instance.

I can say with surety that engineering types are very much a breed apart from the average — and they’re very much aware, but not ashamed of, that fact. Their brains are structured differently, in what I’d call “Aspie lite,” IOW, they may not actually have Asperger’s Syndrome but they’ve got a lot of the characteristics. Asperger’s is the high-functioning version of Autism, and Autism occurs 5x more often in boys than in girls.

It is unremarkable to say that a particular trait occurs more in one sex than in another. That the Google culture hyperventilates over it says all you need to know about that region of the country.

This phenomenon will get worse before it gets better.

The difference between the two, is that one person does not end up costing Google any money. Football is entertainment. He is hurting the brand and thus the money. See the difference?
