Welcome back from Thanksgiving break! Grab a stool as Jim and Greg dissect good, bad, and crazy martinis today. First, while Greg laments another Ohio State win over Michigan, they love the powerful pro-life story involving OSU’s star running back. They also slam Michael Bloomberg for saying taxes on poor people are good because then poor people won’t make as many bad choices for themselves. And they roll their eyes as LGBT activists complain about the absence of same-sex romances in Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies. You’ll also enjoy their unvarnished analysis of the Hallmark movies as they currently exist.

Greg,
Maybe Michigan would be more competitive with Ohio State if it were not for all the potential Michigan stars getting aborted.
Go Bucks!
Like Westerns, these Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas romances are genre films, and therefore vary widely in quality. They have to end in a shootout or a clinch; what differs is how you get there.
Just within the last couple of days, I sampled one with really terrible acting, and another that was legitimately dramatic, in which the hero’s father suffers from Alzheimer’s.
The Christmas Hope (2009) with Madeleine Stowe and James Remar is perhaps the “Citizen Kane” of this genre. I also keep half an eye out for anything starring Lacey Chabert, who seems to have some kind of mutant superpower of likability.
Lifetime is more “woke” than Hallmark. Increasingly, the hero or heroine will have a brother who is married to a man and has adopted a child.
Given that these films are aimed at women, that’s probably as far as they can go in the direction of a gay male romance.
N.B.: I no longer sneer at films in which a perfectly ordinary girl marries a prince. In nearly every such film, the young lady makes a more believable princess than Meghan Markle.
I think Jim needs to do a hostile takeover of the Hallmark Channel.
Do higher level memberships provide ad-free podcasts? Today, not the first time, an add stuck in mid-sentence.
Interesting. I had the initial ad repeat less then 2 minutes in.
Three Martini Lunch has a higher proportion of ads than any other podcast I listen to. So I use the skip button.
They may not have any more ads than some others – although it’s also a shorter podcast – but the ads are mostly not read by the hosts.
