Chad Benson is in for Jim Geraghty. Today, Chad and Greg discuss the political insanity playing out in Portland, as the media and the mayor paint the violent mob as the victims now that federal forces are there to protect government property. However, Chad wonders whether Portland should be left to suffer the results of its own radicalism. They also dig into the congressional fight over unemployment benefits and wonder if another widespread COVID shutdown is on the way. And they have fun with the news that the “Washington Football Team” will not have a mascot for the 2020 NFL season.

The Washington Generics?
I didn’t know Chad had been a professional flop-and-fall-down player.
Would Chad Benson argue that if someone is standing on city property, and throwing rocks or explosives or whatever, onto federal property, the feds can’t do anything about it?
Benson didn’t think it through.
The Feds identify the ringleaders of the attacks on Federal property and Federal officers while the attacks are going on, but there are too many rioters present at that time to perform the arrests, barring massive use of force.
Therefore they wait until the ringleaders are relatively alone and unsupported before they try to arrest them. Because if they try to arrest them when there are hundreds of rioters around, the ringleaders can slip away in the confusion.
Or, it will take massive numbers of deaths.
A criticism of the ATF in the Branch Davidian incident is that they did not pick up David Koresh when he was away from his compound.
I always figured that was actually Janet Reno’s fault. As with the Elian Gonzalez case.
