Join Jim and Greg as they discuss the gut-wrenching loss of another 6.6 million jobs over the past week but also note an economic silver lining. They also react to Dr. Fauci suggesting people permanently stop shaking hands and then muse about what should replace it.  And they lose their appetites as they discuss another way China is a breeding ground for illnesses.

I will resist letting an infectious disease specialist whose only interest is infectious disease declaring dictator-like that we must turn our entire culture into an unfriendly culture that denies people the touches and interactions that are psychological necessities.

Asian cultures have spent centuries developing cultures that value hiding emotions, and thus facial expression is of limited value in human interaction. Thus Asian cultures accept mask wearing that obscures interaction by facial expression. Americans value and rely on facial expression, so mask wearing deprives people of important parts of human interaction.

Asian cultures have spent centuries developing cultures that resist physical human-to-human physical contact. Most Americans come from cultures that put high value on physical touch. We know from psychological studies that people who are denied physical touch suffer immensely.

Remember, Jim Geraghty is always wrong.

He wonders why China’s wide use of so-called gutter oil (cooking oil obtained from garbage) doesn’t lead to more waves of disease.

He forgets cooking oil is heated to temperatures far higher than the boiling point of water, destroying the disease organisms that were surely there.

Of course, that does nothing about any non-biological contaminants in the gutter oil.

It could still be rancid, not sure if just high temps is enough for that.

Also, the people who handle that stuff, don’t get cooked at high temps. At least not until they’re already dead. So they could pass around stuff that might get cooked out of the “oil” itself.

Good points.  Mainland Chinese, like our ancestors, have to have a pretty fierce immune system just to survive to adulthood.

Reflect upon what passes for fertilizer on Chinese farms.
