Join Jim and Greg as they appreciate the National Transportation Safety Board explanation of what really led to the train derailment in Ohio – an ignored warning on an overheated axle and not some left-wing fiction about reckless deregulation. Plus, they discuss what this means for Buttigieg’s political future and how President Biden may have stumbled into a stroke of political genius. They also wince at the latest consumer expenditure numbers suggesting inflation may be stubbornly high for quite a bit longer. And they get a kick out of the news that Marianne Williamson plans to enter the Democratic presidential field, but also wonder whether more prominent figures on the left will follow her lead.

There was not “an ignored warning”.  The train was in the process of stopping after the trackside detector alerted the crew to the overheated bearing.

An axle problem pretty much makes it 1000% the fault of the railroad, doesn’t it?

It wasn’t clear in what was said on the podcast, but maybe there had been maybe two previous alerts that were ignored, and they didn’t begin stopping the train until after the third warning.

According to the Wall Street Journal yesterday (or maybe the day before), two previous trackside detectors had observed elevated temperatures, but not high enough to trigger a warning.  As soon as a warning was actually triggered, the crew began stooping the train.

It was a bearing, not an an axle.

Even if the rate of inflation dropped to zero TODAY, that doesn’t mean prices go back down to where they were before FJB took office.  It’s distressing, but not really surprising, how many people don’t seem to understand that.

    Bearings are on axles.

But they’re not “axles”.  If you have a problem with a  bearing on your car and you go have the mechanic replace the axle you’re doing it wrong.

It’ll be funny if Marianne puts a scare into Biden early in the campaign – maybe wins a state early… Wouldn’t it be funny if she replaces Kamala Harris?

Hmm, Marianne replaces Kamala as VP because Marianne is a bigger threat to Joe’s re-election than Kamala would be?

    I can believe that.

There may be exceptions, but a bad day for Mayor Pete is a good day for American citizens.
