I was an original USAF Race Relations Officer.I was also one of the very few White ones. I was probably quieter than I should have been or needed to be but I did get to observe the personality that I saw 50 years later which became Kendi.
As such, I derive much pleasure (Hello! schadenfreude) at the exit of Kendi from the current scene.
Further, I found John’s screed @ Trump to be cringeworthy. Trump’s a’moron’? Violent? What in his history supports such a silly statement from a smart man. I’m going to be arrogant and obnoxious and say how embarrassed I am for John since his Trump derangement is such that he won’t take the time to be embarrassed for himself. When I look at people who KNOW Trump and/or follow his policies and put aside the fact that he’s not the #1 choice for BFF or pastor and contrast such people to the utterly power-mad gang that are desperate to keep the puppet Biden in the Oval, I need not be FOR Trump…I merely must look at the addled and infirm Biden (I’m 78) and wonder how his wife and children and Cabinet fail to get arrested for elder abuse AS WELL as for trashing the Nation each took an oath to preserve and protect.
Trump’s amoral and likely immoral and…what about Clinton and Obama and LBJ and Biden and Harris puts a shield around them to keep them as pure as Ivory soap?
John can agree with Glenn about Rep. Donalds but sets aside the same analytical skills when it comes to Trump.
Very odd.
(Not sure what legal analyses he missed or ignored that points to the perhaps DOZENS of points of appeal with regards to the utterly unethical Bragg prosecution.)
I haven’t listened to a Glenn Show before. After hearing Glenn interviewed about his new book I thought I would give him a try. I have to say that I like him a lot. I think he has some great ideas. On the other hand John McWhorter was a real disappointment. I don’t mind people who disagree with me so long as they stick to the facts. Unfortunately, like most Democrats, McWhorter thinks that Trump’s awfulness cannot be exaggerated. That is where we part company irretrivably.
I am no fan of Trump’s. I will vote for him because it is a binary choice, for very little other reason. However, much of what McWhorter said was just plain bovine superabundance. Many of the things he said about Trump were completely fact-less with no supporting evidence other than whatever the left has been saying. As an example, McWhorter claimed that Trump used the “N” word. There has never been ever a proven statement to back that assertion. It is a lie. That is not to say that Trump is any kind of saint in that regard, but, realistically, look at Joe Biden and tell me that there is a greater chance that Trump used that word and Joe didn’t! Joe is a border state politician with connections to at least a couple of KKK Grand Wizards, or whatever they call their poobahs. He is a low grade moron who has spent his life trying to stay in the middle of whatever pack was leading the party at the time, and we all know where Democrats have been prior to LBJ pretending that he was a Civil Rights advocate.
I have no respect for people who will use that kind of argument. I know that Glenn and John are friends, and I understand the need to be civil in such discussions. I just don’t like lying or letting an obvious lie go by unchallenged. I won’t be listening to this podcast again because it seems, from what I have seen, that McWhorter is a regular guest.
It’s always a shock when someone who is as bright as McWhorter can be so suffused with Trump hate that he is essentially blinded. I hate the fact that Trump becomes the only logical choice since NONE of the other candidates present realistic nor sane policies….or if/when they did, their actions have proven them to be a lie. Trump has been the opposite, in fact….all the worst fears pf Trump As POYUS have essentially dissipated by the 4 year (on balance) record.
I am wondering if these people who go over the top on Trump is due to voting for FJB. Everything this administration touched was a screw up, his mental decline is more apparent every day and having Harris as plan b only makes it worse.
As the case for Trump over Biden becomes more and more overwhelming, Biden supporters have to retreat further and further into fantasy: insurrection, end of democracy, racism, concentration camps, etc.
John McWhorter is very sensible — on many other subjects!
Remember, if he ever flagged in his anti-Trump enthusiasm, he would be ostracized by his social circle. He would certainly lose his lucrative and influential New York Times gig.
Some people, like Alan Dershowitz, will stand on principle anyway, blacklist or no blacklist; but not everybody is that brave or that clear-sighted.
I think both of these gentlemen are terrific. Is John over the top on Trump? Sure, but so are millions of other people. I agree with John on many things, and whether I do or don’t agree, I always enjoy hearing his views because he is smart and interesting. His book on Wokeism was fabulous, and I certainly wouldn’t tune out the show because of his views on Trump.
An even bigger black mark against John is what he says about Ronald Reagan.
By this late date, most liberals* are willing to admit Reagan was a political genius, recognizing his many successes. But to John, he is still the “amiable dunce” that liberals called him early on; i.e., before he defeated the Soviet Union in the Cold War.
Evidently for John Reagan’s successes, like Trump’s, were all lucky accidents, coincidences. “Ronald Reagan did everything wrong in the Cold War — and then the Soviet Union mysteriously collapsed!”
*See, for example, Chris Matthews.
