Your eyes do not deceive you. Violent rioting has gripped the streets of American cities; more and more homeless are pouring out onto the sidewalks; and we have entered the era of rule by Karen. Turn on your TV, though, and you’ll be told none of this is happening because…Orange Man Bad! Our editors cut through the lies to get at what’s really going on.

I was able to download the podcast from here: https://claremontinstitute.libsyn.com/mind-control-93-effective-the-roundtable-ep-34-0
Thank you for the link. This is probably my favorite podcast. It is intellectually fulfilling and thoughtful. These young men are remarkable, a very pleasant change from norms of their generation. They represent exactly what it was that education meant to me when I was growing up, but what was horribly missing from educational system when I joined it.
@blueyeti Well, this podcast doesn’t seem to work either. Perhaps you should cut down the number of podcasts so we can actually listen to the ones worth listening to, like this one.
Speaking of video games as a cultural touchstone, is anyone at Claremont a regular gamer? Do y’all have plans to write about Watch Dogs: Legion, Cyberpunk 2077, Wasteland 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, or any other popular games of the coming months which regard revolutions, political history, and cultural trends?
It’s coming to be my favorite too, Eugene.
These guys are so well-read, and they convey their intellectual authority in a fluent, casual conversation. A joy to listen and learn.
I signed up for a lifetime subscription a few weeks ago when they coined the brand name Trader Schmendrik’s. No joke, my podcast buddies were texting and calling each other to share that one.
I pray that American Mind doesn’t go National Review on me.
Netflix has a short documentary titled “How to Stage a Coup.” It makes no mention of the US.
Elsewhere on Ricochet, some of us debated whether or not a coup d’etat is the only real form of coup. I cited Putin’s gradual claim of Russia as an alternative. The essence, as I see it, is an unlawful change of government. I’d be interested to hear y’all discuss it.
The were no disagreements among the historians included in that documentary. It’s not a deeply critical overview. Nevertheless, their claim seems accurate that coup d’etats generally involve a people’s wild hope in central leadership amid economic depression and social chaos. When enough people become desperate for a change to the status quo, villains can gain popularity with empty promises.
