That’s something most people don’t seem to understand about civil lawsuits:  even if you win, nobody gets the money FOR you, or makes the “loser” pay.

Did JVL read “Das Kapital” during the Covid-19 shutdown?

Eh, JVL’s commie tendencies predate coronavirus. It’s part of his (prickly) charm.

Man, it’s getting more and more annoying to have JVL agree with me. As an old Gen-Xer (older than JVL,) who grew up resenting the Boomers a lot, I realized I needed to rethink that position* as soon as JVL went on his tirade.  He also has a short memory if he doesn’t think Gen-Xers whined. What do you think Grunge was, dude? Or “Reality Bites,” or MTV promos featuring Sarah Jessica Parker lamenting that she wasn’t what she thought she’d be? There was plenty of whining.  It may have had a different character than that of the following two generations, but it was there in abundance.

Yes, the recalcitrance of the owner of Action Park, and the difficulty of plaintiffs to collect is all “Capitalism’s” fault, JVL. It’s too bad that insurance reform or tort reform is just impossible in our system: there’s just no way to do it in this irredeemably corrupt system! It’s just a feature of “Capitalism!” That’s why the neither the United States nor any other “Capitalist” nation has ever reformed torts or insurance laws.  Perhaps if the State owned all amusement parks this would never happen. What am I saying, of course it would never happen. No one being able to sue would end the problem of collections but good!

I don’t want him to slow down these podcasts even more, but at some point I’d love to hear JVL define “capitalism,” because it seems like a catch-all meaning stuff he doesn’t like.

*Which I’d done a bit of already in reading P.J. O’Rourke’s “The Baby Boom: How It Got That Way, And It Wasn’t My Fault, And I’ll Never Do It Again.”

He’s getting less charming to me with each podcast.  He truly seems to hate non-college-educated and/or non-white-collar workers.   And also people richer than him who got that way for “illegitimate” reasons.  College-educated, middle to upper-middle class white-collar workers in industries he approves of: they’re A-OK.  Wait ’til he reads what Marx has to say about them. But of course that would never apply to ol’ JVL: he’s too smart.

He does seem like one of those who don’t think the guillotine would ever be used on HIM.
