    I had assumed that Biden would be a figurehead, and some sensible people in the background would make, well, sensible decisions.

    Unfortunately, the Afghanistan surrender makes it harder to believe. That is, it’s hard to believe that any sensible person, even a leftist, would have followed such a course.

    Like giving the Taliban a veto over who gets to the evacuation planes …

    Perhaps we should imagine that different staffers get control of “the royal seal”, as it were, and pursue inconsistent policies from one day to the next.

    And, further, that some of those staffers are farther to the left then we think, and wish the United States ill.

    That wouldn’t be difficult to believe, since some of those in Congress obviously do.  AOC, Omar, etc.
