Notorious RBG! Nice!
“A member of our government does not go and negotiate behind the back of the President of the United States.”
I don’t think John Kerry or Jim Carey are in government, these days.
Teri- the reason Cardinal Dolan did that was for two reasons and neither of them are good. This is my opinion of course but reason one, money. The diocese is in the process of raising $200 million dollars to make up for the pay out for the sex scandals and continuing to shutter Catholic Schools (including my elementary school) and parishes, isn’t helping to raise funds. I’m sure Cardinal Dolan got a good chunk of change for participating in this event. Reason Two: relevance. Church attendance is dramatically down, and instead of (gasp!!) going back to a more traditional liturgy or expanding parishes that do the Latin mass (which are the parishes that are growing) he would rather rub up with the elites who HATE Catholicism, to seem “with it”.
It’s annoying and this isn’t the first time he has capitulated to the elites in this manner, also he tolerates A LOT of bad behavior amongst the priests of his diocese and doesn’t seem to want to do anything about it. It’s sad as I grew up in NY, in that Diocese, But Cardinal Dolan is NO Cardinal O’Connor, and this is what we get.
Also, I get it the elites are going to do this kind of thing. The most offensive thing is that Dolan participated.
Regarding the now infamous mitre worn by Rhianna – it is a myth that Cdl. Dolan loaned it to her. It was designed by John Galliano. I say this is as someone who is not his Eminence’s biggest fan and I really don’t like it when he “yucks it up” with the celebrity class, but this rumor needs to stop. Apparently he was making a joke in saying that he loaned it to her in his usual jovial, avuncular manner. Again, I find his style annoying and ultimately counter-productive but he is who he is.
I found the whole display profane and agree with @mate de that shouldering up with these elites is offensive to the lay faithful.
I always howl when momentum gets Teri going on a rant then she realizes it and then in the perfect mom voice kind of brings it to a close with a couple staccato words
