I found it interesting that you guys were complaining that the senator was said to be a “mom of two”. If we want to elevate motherhood and as a sociality try to back away from the more Careerist wing of feminism, and show that as mothers we still can win senatorial seats, isn’t is a good thing to elevate that she is a mother rather than a CFO?
I just got the impression when you guys were talking about the headline that, even you guys, conservative women who reject the Gloria Steinem wing of careerist feminism ,get sucked into the same tropes. Of course they wouldn’t say that about a man because men and women are different and motherhood is different than fatherhood. Also for so many years motherhood has been looked down upon by our increasingly leftist culture.
I know that was kind of a throw away topic but I think that would be a really interesting issue to explore. Why do we react that way? Like the line “what is this the 1950’s?” which is a line a leftist who rejects 1950 bourgeois values would say. Not saying that we go back in time, but I suggest you check out this article written by two law professors regarding how maybe rejecting 1950’s bourgeois culture wholesale was throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Check it out it may make an interesting topic to talk about on a podcast.
You’re right, that would be interesting! Here’s where I’m coming from on this — feminism is self-destroying, it’s almost embarrassing these days to call yourself one. But the media is still in need of a takedown, so I’ll take any chance to mock them for their double standards.
But, good on this mom of two for running for office and winning! Perhaps we should interview her and get her thoughts on the matter.
Oh I hear you on the media, but I feel like we’ve been conditioned to react a certain way. And when you guys were talking about the article I was just like “hmmmm, maybe it’s a good thing to mention that she’s a mom instead of a CFO” and it made me think of that article that I mentioned above, I linked it below. The law professors who wrote the piece are being attacked by their fellow professors as racists, of course, for actually defending 1950’s values. Maybe you should try to interview one the professors who wrote the piece, her name is Amy Wax, it would be an interesting conversation.
