Guns Aren’t Going Anywhere, So Here’s What Needs to Happen

Kira, April, and Teri tackle the tough issues surrounding the school shooting in Parkland, discussing why we didn’t used to have such violent acts on school campuses and what needs to happen to put a stop to them (hint: it doesn’t involve fewer guns). Also, Omarosa disses Mike Pence’s Christianity, the media weirdly makes Kim Jong Un’s sister a thing, and the Olympics are in full swing.

The adults in his life have all died. His father some years ago – 8 0r 9, and his mother this past November of the flu.

I dont think you can blame the media (games or TV) for the violence. Canada, among many other countries, get all the same tv shows, all the same video games, but unlike some other countries – most of the guns used in mass shootings are also available here. Yet Canada has had 17 mass shootings in the past 30 years. (at least according to wikipedia)

There are 2 social experiments where the United States is leading the world – as you’ve noted the break down of the family and the loss of father figures to many young men. Secondly the mass drugging of youth – “Therapeutic” drugs, not recreational. The number of youngsters (mostly boys) who take all manner of drugs for social disorders is absolutely astounding. Its one feature that every mass shooter since Charles Whitman (1966, University of Texas Tower Shooting) generally “credited” with being the first mass shooting in America – have had in common – use of psychoactive drugs. Whitman was on Dexedrine.

After everyone of these shootings everyone makes a stink about the guns. Never does anyone anywhere ever wonder about the actions of the drugs. It would be interesting to examine the brains of these guys to see if these drugs effected the brain development.

That is a wonderful idea — much like they study the brains of former football players. We should also talk about the antiquated public school model that fails to serve our children, especially our boys. It’s heartbreaking to think how many boys have been put on drugs for being too fidgety in their younger years.

Congrats on another good show, Teri. Yours was the only one, that I heard, that talked about the kid, instead of guns. Whenever these things happen, people want to talk about guns. Guns are a tool. We must get into the heads of the awful people who do these things. Kira had the right ideas: Get some arms to the good people. And get some morality into children again.

Congrats to you also, Occupant. We have to stop zeroing in on the guns, and talk about something that might work. And looking at the drugs that too many kids take sounds like a great way to start.

Its the one area where the United States is completely unique. While Canada also uses the same drugs, its not nearly as wide spread. Its really the largest medical experiment in the history of humanity.

An article from Esquire magazine from 2014, also voices concerns about ADHD drugs:

    https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a32858/drugging-of-the-american-boy-0414/

6.4 MILLION CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF FOUR AND SEVENTEEN HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD. BY HIGH SCHOOL, NEARLY 20% OF ALL BOYS WILL HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD—A 37% INCREASE SINCE 2003.

WOW!! I don’t know what to say. These are sad times. Not enough attention is being paid to this. You shouldn’t just medicate kids. It is wrong!

Finally listened today, so sorry to jump in late.

Great job by everyone, but Kira you were on fire, and well done raising that son of yours. The fact that he has the presence of mind to understand that this sort of thing is vanishingly rare speaks highly of your family dynamic. As a follow on, Ben Domenech at The Federalist shared research via The Transom discussing how schools are safer than before. Just like your son was indicating.
