For Alcatraz: Take a bag of food, and a bag of drinks, with maybe a thermos of hot water. Dress in layers, and prepare to be hot but definately cold at some point. Parking for the ferry runs about $50.00, and give yourselves plenty of time. And definately buy the corny picture. A great trip with children!

I have never been to SF, but isnt the Golden Gate bridge a long long walk? With 5 kids in tow? That sounds pretty difficult to me.

About 2 miles each way considering the approaches on both sides. We went with three teen-ish kids who thought it was a colossal drag – naturally. The real danger is keeping out of the bike lane. The pathway alongside the bridge is divided clearly into pedestrian and bicycle. If you step into the bicycle part you are taking your life in your hands.
