Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
We’re not short on takes about the search (or whatever you wanna call it) at Mar-a-Lago this week; but one can’t ever get enough of people who know what they’re talking about when it comes to something as big as this!
Ricochet’s old friend Andy McCarthy joins to provide just that kinda commentary. He gives some essential vocab clarifications; lays out the charges he believes the Justice Department is actually seeking; and ponders how and when the ethos of the agency went awry – and how he thinks it could be brought back.
Also, Peter recounts how he felt right at home on the range. Plus he and James chat about the shows they “have to” watch and the stuff they can live without.

Also it seems unlikely that the employees involved won’t benefit from “performance bonuses” or what-not.
Meanwhile, if someone wants a standard that police-type people only face punishment if they somehow personally directly profit from some misbehavior, then that’s pretty much open-season on them breaking the laws they swore an oath to uphold.
I always generally liked the movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact more than 2001: A Space Odyssey.
It is bit tough to say that when it is a sequel where you kind of need to watch the previous movie.
Whenever I see a movie I don’t understand in some mystical way, I usually assume that is because I don’t take recreational drugs. 2001: A Space Odyssey seemed to have too much dead time and lack a thing or two to me.
Weird that Peter never saw 2010: The Year We Make Contact due to that being one of the few movies like that which mentions possible Cold War escalation.
P.S. I can download this podcast now, but only through my phone. I guess my computer has some type of problem, but I do not know what it would be.
The 2001 movie was missing a lot of… narration? something… from the novel. Very little of that happens with 2010.
Who in their right mind thinks Nikki Haley would be a good candidate, let along a viable one? Peter usually has sound judgment but not when it comes to her for some reason. Hopefully he is not falling into the “I have to include a woman or people will think I’m sexist” trap. It is good to have him back, though I must say the fill-ins were excellent and I for one wouldn’t be sad to learn Rob’s vacation will be extended for another three months or so.
The same people who wanted to foist JEB! on us.
Some say that after 9/11, when the FBI was given a domestic intelligence role, that the agency changed.
You mean people like Andy McCarthy in this interview?
The same people who even bother interviewing Jeb!…or Christie…or MaCarthy.
Probably because unlike 2001 it’s a coherent story with good pacing, writing, and a satisfying conclusion. You don’t need to see the first one to enjoy it, and those aspects that don’t make that much sense in 2010 don’t make much sense in 2001 either so it’s a wash. You’re probably spot-on about the recreational drugs.
Please clap.
Piece of pie.
Easy as cake.
And who also booked some guy named Vince Guerra to be on this show !
My recollection of 2010 — and, admittedly, it’s a recollection of the original release — is that it’s one of those “Why, the Soviets are just like us! They just want peace” movies.
We’re American patriots, they’re Soviet patriots: why, they’re just like us!
Even the movie adaptation of The Hunt for Red October features an apology for its “Cold-Warriorness”: that this is all taking place “before Gorbachev”.
If we win with Nikki Haley on the ticket, and lose without her, then “GO NIKKI!!!”
If we win with Nikki Haley on the ticket, we lose.
She doesn’t know what time it is.
Andy will soon be back to claiming everyone at the FBI/DOJ are rock-ribbed patriots, every single one. He’s done it before, more than once.
You seriously believe there’s no difference between Trump-Haley and Biden-Harris?
Hell, I would vote for a Republican ticket of Romney-Cheney over anything the Dems would be offering.
Well, probably. But Gabbard and someone might be worth considering over Romney-Cheney.
Nope. In the unlikely chance Tulsi ever appears on a future Presidential ticket, it will be a Republican one.
My understanding is she has a very socialist voting record outside of some of that privacy stuff. It’s going to be a real trick to turn her into Lloyd Bentsen. Everybody wants that, but I would be careful about getting your hopes up.
That’s quite possible too. Especially considering that JFK could never be on a Democrat ticket these days.
But she might be an okay president with a Republican-controlled House and Senate.
She is going to have to think of something to say for her to get from here to there.
Everybody gets excited about her because she doesn’t sound like a Democrat when she’s in the media, but people need to think about how this is really going to work for her to actually get elected.
All I need to satisfy myself with is that I’d prefer her to President Harris.
You didn’t say “Trump/Haley” you said “Haley.” What was I supposed to think?
The book version of Red October is a Cold War book. The movie came out in the immediate aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union. It pretty much had to be addressed. I thought they did a pretty good job of suggesting that the events [The Russians attempting to deploy a first-strike weapon, only to have it hijacked by Ramius] in the movie were a significant contributing factor that brought Gorbachev to power and helped end the Cold War.
The movie, The Hunt for Red October, was released more than a year before the Soviet Union was dissolved. There is nothing in the film to suggest that its (fictitious) events led to the rise of Gorbachev or to the end of the Cold War, which hadn’t happened yet.
OK. You seriously believe there’s no difference between Haley-anybody and Biden-Harris?
I strongly suspect Pres. Nikki Haley would not open the border, nor try to pack the Supreme Court with Democrats.
To talk about Ricochet during a membership drive. Thanks for plugging my books during it. Oh wait, you didn’t.
